Scotts Valley City Council approves Blake Lane townhomes
An old single-family home on Blake Lane will be torn down to make room for six new townhouses, a development city leaders tout for increasing the quantity and quality of Scotts Valley's overall housing stock.

Yep, the more the borders are open, the denser gets the housing.

"Locatelli said the townhomes project will capture used water and pump it back into the ground to recharge depleted underground aquifers."
Isn't that kinda gross? |

oh goodie, more vacant homes in scotts valley, and low income ones too...great thinking, lets be sure and make it into a mini san jose, more asphault too, please
been on the area over 50 years, and scotts valley has always been on the cutting edge of over building, tear it down and build worthless tax increasing vacant structures |

I'm so glad that everyone in Scotts valley has been good at conserving water. This allows more building permits to be approved. Hopefully the conservation efforts will continue as there are more spaces that have room for high-density housing. Keep up the good work folks, the developers, the City, and the low income housing recipients thank you.

I've never understood the term "single family home" ... like more than one family lives in a home ? maybe in Watsonville .? but a home is a home. A condo is a condo, a duplex or triplex describes multiple "home" building ...

Aside from pertinent comments already posted on this blog.
When the construction starts, please pay attention, who do you think will be doing the work on the construction site? I venture, no contractor will be tagged for hiring illegal's. |

give it up and leave some of Scotts Valley GREEN...

Locotelli if you cared about this community you would build low income housing, not just attempt to make yourself look "good" (right) by giving one unit to a "moderate" earner. Moderate earner in SV is 30,000 or less. My family of four lives on less then 18,000 a year. SV needs low income housing, not overpriced superficial yuppie units. Landlord greed in SV is sickening. It is forcing many to leave the area. Developers LIKE This, are giving all SV residents the short end of the situation by conducting themeselves in this fashion.

Gee maybe you need to get a better paying job ??? Good for S.V. at least it won't become Santa Cruz or worse yet WATSONVILLE !! You can't always live where you want now can you ? |
|
Not on $18,000 a year. But you might make it in Arkansas or Louisiana. The snag is that neither state pays very much in public assistance. And they are somewhat lacking in long term low income services as are Nevada and Arizona. |

Yea!....6 more families to shop at Target!
|
|
Come to Nebraska!! Welfare benefits and food stamps are handed out as party favors here. Just be sure to get pregnant when you're 15 (and be a meth addict)and keep having...I think it's up to 5 until they cut you off. And be sure to shop at the Super Walmart!! I have a house I can sell you for cheap too...own your own piece of paradise. |

Hey! They say Morse Bluff is the next Aspen. And your home might even accrue equity.
A family would do much better with true home ownership in another state than with govt or taxpayer subsidized, restricted deed housing in Santa Cruz.

Gee maybe you need to get a better paying job ??? Good for S.V. at least it won't become Santa Cruz or worse yet WATSONVILLE !! You can't always live where you want now can you ? Your ignorance of the truth of low income housing is typical of one so undeducated. It is obvious from your post that your lacking in education. Low income housing in Santa Cruz county is mainly located in Capitola. Throughout Santa Cruz County the number/ratio of low income housing is very low compared to most counties in California. As a social worker for Santa Cruz County, I happen to have visited most of these areas for positive and negative issues. I have seen no crime, no evidence that they are anything other than working families contributing to the economy as do I. It is pathetic that you base the worth of a human being on their income. I support a very ill brother, two elderly parents and myself very well on 18,000 but if our housing were affordable, I could provide a better living for my parents. I choose a wonderful career that supports my family. As I was raised in SV and so were my parents, I see no clarity to your line of thought that suggests I must move because according to your standards (whatever they are) that I do not qualify to be a SV resident. I feel pity for your attitudes as do my 6 neighbors that are standing behind me watching me send this message. We all make about the same income, and contribute greatly to our city, our county and our state. Let me be clear, that I am proud of what I do, my family deserves to live out their lives in their hometown, and you I would suggest, please educate yourself on the issues before insulting your neighbors. I support low income housing in Scotts Valley and all of Santa Cruz County. It will provide a better life for the people that support this area. |

Before you start condemning this builder, check into the fees that are tacked on to any and all buildings that are constructed in Santa Cruz County. The builder takes all of the risk, all of the headaches of construction, the problems with the labor force of today, sub contractors that are less than truthful and the county does zip. For this, the County will make as much or more than the builder does in it's fees. Before you start speaking, learn a littler bit about the business. Also, if the builder were to do the job for zero profit, the bank would NEVER give him the financing. The banks need the builder to make money. They do not want to get a half completed building back because the builder had no incentive to finish it. Always check out how much government is getting in the way of private enterprise when you are throwing stones. |

Typical of a Locotelli to not grasp the true needs of the community. I suggest he spend some time in SV and review the housing needs. To say that type of housing will support a "moderate" earner is far from the truth.
Is anyone else disturbed by the mentaility of attacks on a person that is making less then they might? I am! Since when did this society become so cruel and judgemental? |

I suggest that Victoria stay in San Jose where she belongs. Her kind is not welcome here.
|
|
|
I second that

I highly recommend that Victoria continue her miserable unhappy life in SJ. She can't handle all those caring and compassionate people here in Santa Cruz. Your type belongs in SJ. Here we support our friends and neighbors no matter what they make for income.

Here in SV, we enjoy frends and neighbors from all walks of life. Many of my friends make a lot less then 18K a year. Big deal. Who cares. We are not judgemental about income like Victoria would have you believe. We are good neighbors, good friends with all and supportive. Thank God her type lives in San Jose, thats the place for nasty people. The value of a life is not based on income Victoria. Get a life.
I agree that these condos are not truly for "Moderate earners" they are for elitist types. low income housing in SV is welcome by me. |
