Can this possibly be true!! Its inconceivable that any adult would allow any child to be abywhere near loaded guns - The only explanation, if the allegations are true, is that she certifiably insane!!

this was in the news article
"The D-A says the little girl's death should have been avoided because Jaeckle had been warned before not to allow the children near guns.

The D-A also says there were numerous unlicensed rifles, hand guns and shot guns in the house."

I think the parents should be held responsiable too for knowing all this about the guns and still leaving their little girl at the grandmothers house.R.I.P. Cassie God Bless you.

Children that young need to be supervised anyway let alone with guns lying around!! I don't even let my 12 year old play ball in the yard without watching him. If he's outside with a friend I always make sure I know what they're up to!(We don't have any firearms.)

I am just wondering why the 10 year old boy is in foster care. I mean the grandmother was watching him, he didn't live with her, or did he? Also I don't see why the parents should be held responsible because they aren't mind readers, it isn't like they told the grandmother to let them play with guns.

apparently, the guns belonged to her late husband. And they raised their 10 year old grandson. So they allowed a child to be around guns for years.
After her husband died, she should have packed the guns up and put them away or got rid of them.
Now we have one dead child, another child who is going to have live with the guilt of shooting her cousin for the rest of her life.
One child dead, one mentally wounded.
Are you proud of yourself grandma?

Common sense! It seems to be lacking all around. Not only did she basically kill her granddaughter but now she has a wounded grandson. And to what extent? You let CHILDREN play with guns? Loaded or not they are not toys!! If the parents knew what was going on in this house they are just as responsible also. You don't leave your children with someone who cannot or will not provide a safe enviroment. Grandparent or not.

for whatever reason the 6year old grandchild
has been taking away from this world the person
to punish is the so called babysitter yeah thats
right {the grandnmother} how tragic for all involved a 10 year old target shooting in a backyard what's that??? please don't punish the 10 year old for this crime even though mistakes happen and even careless accidents happen but
{the grandmother) was warned and how responsible
do you think she is, after the warning she should have woke up from her "whatever"

accountability is right. I would never keep guns where children could access them.Much less allow them to shoot them in my back yard!!!! I dont care how long they had been around them. Kids dont think like adults they dont realize what can happen. She was so wrong for letting that poor boy play with guns. Now he has to live with the horrible fact he killed his cousin. The girls parents must have know this went on if they were close to their parent. so they too are should be accountable. This is a tragic event that could have been prevented,

My guess is that the grandmother thought target pracetice/shooting was harmless, particularly since they are from a rural area. It appears to be the mindset of many who are from the rural areas. Sadly, the loss of one little girl will leave two others mentally maimed because of this.

The boy was just "having fun and being allowed" to target shoot.

Considering there doesn't appear to be any parents around for the boy, he needs his grandmother home and not in prison. Sounds like this kid is going to need a lot of help.

Very sad.

"she allowed them to play with loaded guns" ????

She allowed them or they got into the guns on their own? Regardless, if they had unregistered weapons in the home,as the story says, this is just irresponsible. I can only imagine they were not locked up properly. At least she is being held accountable.

You know you can bend over backwards to avoid these situations and the children always seem to be the victims. What about the parents and grandparents.Where are our rights. Some children are just so out of hand and do what they please. And the parents or grandparents are to blame...When does the blame fall on the child or children when a parent or grandparent has done all they can for the child/children?Laws need to change and children need to be responsible for their own actions.

i can't believe the grandmother pleaded not guilty.if that was my child and she was in the care of my mother, i would want to get all that was coming to her...how can someone let a child play with guns..i think the 10 yr. pld is gonna need counciling for the rest of his life-probably..and for the grandmother--i think she is certifiably insane and should be put away for her crime..
