Good use of this illegal $$$$$. Pick a conspicuous place in the city and post mugshots of the perpetrators for 12 months

Now if only the cops would have actually turned into half of what was confiscated, the police departments wouldn't be broke!

A bad precedent.
This should not be an incentive system for law enforcement.
Confiscated funds belong in the public coffers.

I am not putting down officers, but I would like to see money like that go to crime victims.

I have to agree with local. Although this is great for the police departments, it does incentivize them to make drug busts, which could lead to fabrication of crimes/evidence. It's just a thin line to walk. As long as there is a thorough review before the money is allocated anywhere, and not a precedent that it generally would go to the police forces, then I think this may be ok.

Good now the cops can buy night vision binoculars to hunt down seat belt violators.

Or perhaps some .50 BMG cal rifles or more/bigger machine guns or full auto assault rifles?

Or a Mustang GT or Camaro SS to target speeders?

These seem to be the usual target expenditures of cops when they receive a windfall of money.

Why not use it on BAU stuff so that the taxpayers can get a break?

Several comments so far about how "the cops" will, or should buy whatever.
For the record, "cops" don't buy anything with these funds. Law mandates that these monies be deposited into the individual municipal general funds, where they are earmarked for the police budget.
All capital outlays are approved by the Borough, Township or City.
So if the Chief asks for a Camaro, or a tank for that matter, and gets it, it was approved by elected officials.
