Just a thought people if th PD is gone it will be gone for good. When hecker retires a new sheriff will take over and guess what? If he wants to increase the cost or terminate the contract the city is screwed. And without a PD statistically new businessess will not look at towns without their own police it doesn't look good.

Guess what? If Hecker or the new sherif want to lower costs, are we gong to allow it? A PD is never a driver of new businss, a community that is clean and well kept, one with a budget that makes sense, one run by progressive people attracts industry. A town with public safety responsibly administered by the Conty Sheriff is much better than a town awash in red ink due to the retention of a PD that does nothing but seek more ways to spend great sums of money.

You are right, business and growth follow communities that are responsible run. Ours is incredibly inept. Sorry Alan, ours is inept, and you are to blame.

Well that is true a clean city is a drive. But Hecker cant even police Bellwood like the contract between them states, so if he and his deputies can't handle a small town like Bellwood, how are they to handle a growing city like David City? Half teh time they7 are busy in the County and arn't even in David City so the response time is longer than a PD and they are only contracting for 120 hours a week when the City PD covers 24/7 so what about the other 60 hours in the week. The PD now is not like the older PD the Chief here has cut costs in the budget to the tune of around 130,000 already, so I dont understand wher you are coming from. The county will only be saving the city maybe 45,000 a year, so os that worth the coverqage and hours lost?

We have not had 24/7 in service Police for over 28 years, and we all know it. We have been paying for 24/7+++ service and getting one hell of a lot less. Now, we are going to get what we pay for, which will be a great improvement. The contract has yet to be written, so don't be telling us what it says, you are just like the others in the gang, no integrity, cannot be believed.

Please research who really put the clamps on PD spending, you will quickly learn that it was NOT the Chief. He along with Gastons puppet Ruddy wanted a $107,000 palace for an office. Certainly not an indication of a cost containing public official.

You'll get over the change to the Sheriff, it might just take a while, but everything will be better then. Believe it.

I worry that we will have to keep an expensive police department that we can't afford. Sheriff Hecker will make me feel really safe, for a lot less money every year. How much is $100,000 per year for the rest of your life?

I agree with Worry, and I worry about the punt of money that we spend on police. If we save $50,000 per year, we must do it.

Well from what I know the four officers work 12 hour shifts and cover 24/7 when two are off the other two are on that's 24/7 do the math 12+12 equals 24. And in a council meeting it proven that the chief cut the budget heveven lowered his salary from the balloon pay Sunday was getting by about 15000. You people don't realize you are still paying for law enforcement the only difference is it will go to the county and we will have less coverage and slowed response time.

Bellwood is different than David City. The Sheriffs Office is here, dispatch is here, we are going to have a wonderful experience, I can hardly wait. Let's give the old Dodge cop car to Carol and Steve as a memento of our undying respect for them as community minded citizens, who nobody listened to and most people laughed at. HaHaHa. LOL.

Some people understand what a progressive community is and what it takes to maintain one , good job for the people who do but so many of you in DC are beyond blind. The town of DC is filled with meth and other goodies and the law enforcement officals seem unable to do a damn thing about it. The drug ring in DC is a major pipeline and production remains at a all time high with no end in sight. Why dont you citizens demand arrests and stop the bullshit about who should be in control and take control of your community. The 100lb toothless man your standing by at the grocery store didnt get that way by chance. Any law enforcement would be a improvement over what you all have now.

Did you happen to notice just who, and the backgronds of those who wish to keep our ineffective City Police??? If my boyfriend was a 3 time drug loser, I would want to keep a PD that was not likely to catch him.

Someday the good citizens will wake up, hope it is not too late when they do. Someone needs to take control of this City and head it in the proper direction. The rats will sctter quickly if that ever happens.

The drugs are getting hit in town. It isn't an overnight process I'm sure. You people are just looking for a reason to get rid of the PD. I see lots of drug arrests made by both the PD and the SO wake up people drugs are everywhere and getting worse with the recent economy. With your reasoning they should get rid of every PD across the state I don't know of any town or county for that matter, that is DRUG FREE. Next excuse please.

I believe that this is by far the worst police force that Davuid City has ever had. Even worse than Sunday, Brehm and Broman. Drug arrests are certainly being kept secret, if there are any at all. The Chief has outdone Sunday in hiring the cast offs of other departments, we have some real losers wearing badges and carrying guns.

The quality of our police department ix not an excuse to get rid of it, the quality is one of the solid reasons to get rid of it, that and saving $100,000 + PER YEAR.

Hey what get with the times it will only save about 47000. And I wouldn't talk crap about the officers unless you know them. Who are you to say that they are cast offs you obviously don't know shit. You probably are a worthless piece of crap yourself and never amounted to nothing and only feel big and tough by talking on little forums like this. You probably don't have the balls to be a cop yourself you big pussy. You probably never served in the military either you piece of trash. So go back to your pathetic little shit of a life and shut the hell up.

The PD budget is around 327000 and checkers proposal was around 280000 plus hire an ordinance officer so there is more money for wages and benefits. So where are you getting a savings of 100000? Wow its called basic math you inbred learn it.

The PD budget is around $329,000 and Tony is on pace to spend well beyond that figure, plus he is itching to hire another officer to "fill" the roster, add another $50,000 for salary, benefits, taxes, uniforms, etc. If we add $30,000 for an over run and $50,000 for the officer we now have $409,000, a cool $160,000 over the Sheriff year one cost, and $135,000 over year two cost. My math just isn't as bad as advertised by the resident expert.

Anytime buddy and anywhere. and you talk of old news like a 5th officer. he asked didn't get it end of story so trash the extra figures you were just talking about genious. So math wizard subtract 280000 from 329000 you are looking at a 49000 dollar savings soooooo sorry I was off by 2000 in my figures. So where again is this huge savings? It looks to me to be less than s 50000 savings. Using your figures wizard.
