It has come to my knowledge that somebody has actually had enough of the mayor in David City. To my suprise it is somebody who I don't even know. I will say I support your efforts to recall mayor Trowbridge. His way with the public is so great that I am sure you will have people lined up to sign that recall. I encourage all David City residents to take a strong look at the last 3 years with the dictatorship type of power hungry ruling that Skippy has bestowed on this city. I encourage you also to attend a meeting with the Mayor and see how he truly leads this city by trying eliminate anybody from a meeting or turn words around, even flip people off, and yell at people who see things different. Is this truly a person that should be the leader of the city you live in? I do wish to read your comments on why we should recall or shouldn't recall Skip Trowbridge. If the recall comes to my house I will sign it! One very upset citizen of David City

Yes,someone has filed the paperwork to recall the mayor. Thank God. He's an egotistical, power-hungry, lying bully. Everyone who voted in last year's 2008 presidential election needs to sign the recall papers when it comes around. If you didn't vote in the presidential election, your signature won't be valid. Let's get rid of him and his sidekicks, too!

This is the best news I have heard. Recalling the mayor. Sooner he is out of here the more money the City could save.He thinks he is so powerfull to spend tax payers money. the City will be drained real soon, and the other cronies that are listing to him need to go to!!!!!!!!!! I will sign if it comes around!!!!!!!!!!

I think the mayor of David City has put himself in the posistion that he is in all by himself. If the public is sick of him maybe he might get the idea when his time is up to answer the recall he should resign. I just read the banner press today and I wonder if Mr. Mayor, Mr. City administrator, and Mr. Editor of the newspaper are all in bed together? They are trying to make this Steve who is doing the recall look awful in the paper. It isn't him that is in the wrong. The government has allowed this recall process for a reason and that is to get people out of power who need to be out of power. In my opinion I have not forgot the Mob like mantality that the mayor called a group of children and parents of a ball program trying to save the game in David City. I havn't forgot that he threw out a Veteran for wearing his Navy veteran hat for a sign that he placed on a wall. I looked through all the past agendas and I couldnt find where the council addressed a dress code? That made CNN for the love of God. I ask this if you read this Skip Trowbridge! READ THIS AND UNDERSTAND! STEP DOWN! Let it go enjoy your life and move on!

Due to the respect of the citizens of David City and in all fairness to the Mayor and City Council I feel that I should respond to the comments of mayor Trowbridge, the four city council members, Mr. Johnson, and to the article in the July 16th Banner Press. First I would like to clarify several comments and quotes mad i the July 16th Banner press. I do not have any objection the the sale of the David City Police Dept. Building as long as a facility that is equivalent or superior to the one the police department now occupies is provided. i do however, have a serious objection the the dissolution of the police department entirely. This fact seemed to have been overlooked in the printing of the Banner Press. As a matter of fact, due to the support, and financial generosity that Henningson's has continually provided to our community, I have absolutely no objection to Henningson's being allowed to purchase the police dept. building at the substantial savings or perhaps something more adequate to express our appreciation as a community. i also do not believe that I stated that the "Group of the people supporting the recall prefer to remain anonymous." These people are very outspoken on this matter and will be helping to obtain the signatures on this recall petition. That doesn't seem to be very anonymous to me. One other quote that I would like to verify, it was reported that i stated "Everybody is upset about the police department," which is not entirely misquoted. However, there are a few words missing, such as "The dissolution of." The quote should have read, Everybody is upset about the dissolution of the police department. Amazing how three words can change a statement!

To Mayor Trowbridge, four council members, and to the citizens of David City, I do wish to apologize. I didn't realize that in order to be considered a citizen within the community, to have the right to become involved in city politics, or to try support and to act upon the concerns of the community, that you would first be required to adhere to personal requirements by attending city council meetings. I had up to this point considered our city officials trustworthy in the respect that they would do what may be in the best interest of our citizens. Since i, and perhaps about 70 percent of this community doesn't seem to meet the personal requirements of Mayor Trowbridge as qualified citizens i may have to reconsider my actions. This will of course depend upon the people that still consider themselves citizens of David City because they do pay city sales tax at retail merchants, Property taxes, state income taxes, federal income taxes and support this community in ways other than attending City Council meetings until such a need arises taht requires this community to take a drastic action in order to be heard. Mr. Johnson stated, according to the Banner press, "The black cloud that now exist over our heads in David City was brought about by an uninformed individual that has taken advantage of the citizens and rate customers of David City." I submit to you that I have not attempted to take advantage of anyone, but abided by the request of fellow citizens and given the people of this community an option to be hear. One other item that needs to be clarified Mr. Johnson, this is not just my personal stance but that of many, and if you perceive this to be an irresponsibility onto the citizens of David City then you must also assume that anyone involved or supportive of this action, in your opinion, is also irresponsible. You should sincerely hope that this is not the majority. It does seem that anyone not attending City Council meetings, in your opinion, lacks responsibility, and if they do attend a meeting and take a political action they are also irresponsible. It is apparent that in order to be considered a responsible citizen within the community we must adhere to your definitions of responsibility which consists of anyone that will blindly support you and/or the mayor and will relinquish their right of their own opinions, or to act on the behalf of the irresponsible and unqualified people of David City and not your political structure. I PREFER TO BE IRRESPONSIBLE!!!!!!!!!! In conclusion, if the Mayor or City Council honestly believe that the people that are supportive of this action wish to remain anonymous, I would suggest that they continue to read the letters to the editor over the next several weeks. Don't back down Steve they are running scared! The mayor is to much of a "DUSH" as per 5th streets response, to resign. Mr. Joe Johnson is the bag to go with the "DUSH". I see he has his house up for sale? Wonder if he can read the writting on the wall too?

I really don't care about the mayor or what happens with him I don't live in David City let the citizens decide. But, I do know Steve Gaston and he is not the upstanding citizen he is trying to portray in my experience with him. I would not sign anything based on his word or opinion but research it and make an informed decision based on facts from truely upstanding citizens and official records. During difficult economic times officials are forced to make difficult and unpopular desicions, is this the case? I dont know, but, I am sure I would find out before I took the word of this man. People have mentioned they don't know who Steve is. This is likely because truely upstanding citizens would not associate with this man. People should research the source and find out what his motivations truely are and research the records and the reasons or causes for unpopular decisions and make an informed decision.

At the time of election - what were your options? Obviously most thought Skip would do a better job than the other option. Council Members and the Mayor were elected to get a job done - and that means to set aside any differences and make decisions that are best for our city. If you lost on an issue - move on...I'm sure there are other issues that you have won. Both sides of the fence need to grow up!!! You all look like a bunch of toddlers fighting over a toy - eventually the toddlers learn to share. I think that all citizens have the right to let their opinions be known, but there is more than one opinion out there right now on whether to recall the mayor or not. I have heard a great deal that this pettiness of fighting (that is printed every week in the paper and talked about around town)makes us look like a bunch of hillbillies. I for one do not want to have that reputation for our city. I urge the mayor, city councilmen and the city administrator to learn how to communicate in an appropriate manner. No more dragging people through the mud. No more name calling. No more flipping people off. No more childishness. Is this how you raise(d) your children?

I would much rather have a no nonsense mayor than an incompetent boob. Some in town had to clean up their property or didn't get their way so they take it out on the mayor. Kroesing and Scribner have people duped. Anyone who has attended a city meeting can witness their incompetence and how they stall worthwhile projects and economic development because this mayor has taken a no nonsense approach to getting things done. The problem in David City is that they don't give credit for the projects and work that has been done. Instead they give credit to these two do-nothings because they are one of the good old boys. Both of these guys have stalled Timpte and Henningsen projects without regard to the jobs they bring to town. The wrong person(s) is being recalled. And by the way Steve, aren't you the guy who stuck the city with a $1200 unpaid electric bill when your bar went belly up?

Kroesing and Scribner have people duped? I believe it the the other way around! It seems to me that Kroesing and Scribner are the only two that stand up for the people. Susan on Eleventh Street are you a friend of the mayor? How did you get this information of a 1200 dollar unpaid electric bill? How did Kroesing and Scribner stall jobs at Timpte and Henningsen? To me Susan G. you are just upset at somebody.

All this is disgusting. This is the kind of crap Skip and Joe want to see in print. People, stop the pettiness. The issues have been lost. They tried to close the police department down in an underhanded way, until they got called on the carpet. They've lied. No matter what "good" they've done, they tried to do something illegal. That's all it takes. How can one trust anything else that comes forth? How do we know what they've done that we don't know about yet? They should do the right thing and quietly walk away before it's too late.

Fan of Steve: No, not a "friend" of the mayor. I have attended council meetings and witnessed what I spoke of, unlike Steve who has attended only one. I have SEEN Scribner and Kroesing obstruct good projects because they don't like the mayor. It is also common knowledge in the business community how Steve took the city on the electric bill. If you are truly a "fan of Steve" you would also know about his arrest record. A real good spokesperson for the recall. And no I'm not upset at somebody. I simply don't like to see someone railroaded on allegations and misinformation. Looks like you have been duped twice.

I suppose it is finally time to respond to Ms. Susan.. First off, I DID NOT STICK THE CITY. I was completely unassociated with that establishment for over 1 1/2 years prior to it's closing. Perhaps if you would have taken the time to try to get your facts straight you may not have quite as much egg on your face. However I suppose this is the only recourse that the supporters of Mr. Trowbridge can develop. Try to discredit me with slander. I have never claimed to be the most upstanding citizen in this community, however, unlike you I am a citizen that is standing up for the community. I may have a minor arrest record for dumb things but nothing serious.(NOT EVEN A DUI) I suppose that this just proves that perhaps I do know a little of life and don't hide in a self centered, hypocritical, egotistical shell with a false sense of importance. I also am not afraid to use my full name. Now, that being said why don't you try to provide the people of this community with some reason not to sign this recall petition for in my next few publications I will give you factual reasons that they should.

The David City Fire Dept. submitted a request for "D" St. to be repaired in front of the fire station due to the damage that is being done to the equipment damage and quite probably a delay in emergency response time. These repairs could very likely help save someones home or possibly their life. Cost for repairs $10,488.00 DENIED !!!! Put on six year project. Request for repairs to "D" St. from railroad east to 4th St.(Henningsen Foods) Determined need for complete reconstruction. Cost 572,100. APPROVED !!!! The lives and safety of our citizens and volunteer fire and rescue personnel are not very important. This is just the first example of many that will prove to you how the citizens rate to our Mayor. The Mayor and City Administrator have a difficult job to do, and they do it as well as possible considering some of the ignorance sitting on the City Council these days. The methane pipeline, which has been stalled, would have saved the city thousands, and is a no-brainer. The encouragement of Henningsens to bring their offices to our community is also a no brainer as well as needing a strong police department even though it may be in a different location. All of these things can be implemented if three very negative, petty councilmen start acting like elected officials rather than the back-biting, narrow minded bigots that they are! Recall the mayor? You want us to spend thousands on a recall and smear David City all over the State newspapers, just because the people you know and talk to do not like Skip? Have you thought for a minute that all your hatred and negativity accomplishes nothing but more hatred and negativity? If you feel a need for change, why don't you try sitting on a board or a committee for the betterment of DC. Have we ever seen any of you at a Chamber of Commerce meeting? How about Rotary Club or any other of the many organizations in town that try to work together to accomplish good things in the community. You claim everyone you know wants to see Skip recalled. You are not talking to the business owners around the square, or the professionals in town from school teachers to nurses, doctors, etc. People who are really invested in this community do not want the blight of a recall to happen. If you don't like an elected official, work to elect the right person next time. Certainly there will be an effort to elect better City Council Representatives in the future!
