The dam did not break. As a precautionary measure, Middleburg was evacuated and as far as I know, everyone got out.

You can find alot of information at this link, including evacuation shelter locations, etc.

I hope your daughter and family are safe. God Speed..

Thank you LLT1.

Mr. Wright I just received notification from my mom. It was 1 of the fire depts. that got to them. At the moment they are in Middleburg right now. The water has receded. Theres no electricity but some have their cell phones and are able to call and text. You may want to try any #'s of friends she may have. I told my mom you are also looking for your daughter. If you give her your daughters name and contact information she will look for her. Let me know

I am glad your mom is safe Bobbie - I live in Schoharie county, but up at 1440 elevation.

We were prohibited from crossing the Schoharie Creek all day yesterday, the route I travel to work was closed. This morning I found out why.

Four houses along the Esperance - Sloansville section of Route 20 were swept away. I have never experienced anything like what I saw this morning, ever, and hope I don't experience it again. The damage is just horrible.

My prayers to all families who lost their homes and loved ones to the devistating effects of Irene. God bless you and give you strength.

Traveler My mother was able to now get from her home in north blenheim down to middleburg. She told me that some farmers were able to bulldoze paths for cars to get by where the roads are damaged. This is the RT. where Shaul Farm's and Barber's Farm is. Hope this helps you. My mom cried when she got to Main street middleburg. She said garbage all over, mud filled the stores and tracker trailers turned up side down. She said the people are trying to clean up and are helping one another. She will try to call me tomorrow and I will share what ever information I get.

This probably sounds like a crazy question, but I live in Worcester, and we didn't get hit badly at all. I was wondering about the extent of the damage of the farms: Shauls, Barbers, and the Carrot barn(Schoharie valley Farms) It's been difficult to find out if the damage runs all the way from the bridge in Blenheim, near Mattice's all the way down to Schoharie. My sister said she heard the old stone fort was flooded as well. I feel terribly for everybody. I wish there was something I could do. I feel badly for all who've lost their homes and lively hoods. I know the farms struggle in the best of conditions, so I guess I'm holding on to hope that they didn't lose it all. God speed to you all.

Dear Daughter34 - check out this website

http://www.511ny.org/traffic.aspx

on the left side, click the box labeled Incidents and closures. The map will populate with all the closings in red circles - you can zoom into the area and when you click on a circle, it will provide you with an update as to condition and expected opening.

Looks to me like 145 is open from Preston Hollow, all the way north to Middleburgh now. The only touchy spot may be where 81 comes in to 145.

Good Luck and God Bless..

Darlene - I think this picture taken from the summit of Vroomans Nose will answer your question. Shauls, Barbers and the Carrot Barn all suffered massive crop losses.

There are some other pics up there on page 1 of Middleburg proper.

I was in North Blenheim and the covered bridge is gone. Such a tragedy, and the town was clobbered as well. Route 30 is gone at Mattice's farmstand, so I can't tell you what happened further north by Shaul's and Barber Farm. I understand Rte. 30 is washed out in several other locations on the way to Midleburgh, though, and a lot of other roads and bridges are gone or closed as well. The fields in NB by the Schoharie fared pretty well, considering, though there is a lot of damage.

I know...the loss of the longest covered bridge in the world is truly tragic...

The devestation to these small communities is beyond belief. Sadly, many do not have flood insurance and will not rebuild. I fear some of these beautiful little towns may simply be gone forever. Awful...

This is a really good website for updates and photos on all of the effected areas.

LLT1 Thank you for sharing your sites with us. The bridge was so close to my parents house. When I was little we went and ate lunch their. Their was a little white school house near it. My dad on saturday's would bring the garbage to the garbage truck there. The auto body shop they went to was where RT.30 and Bearladder Rd. intersect. It's so sad

I travel from Middleburgh to Cairo, usually via Route 145. Can't get thru yet. Have to go via Huntersland , Route 10 to Rensselaerville to Preston Hollow and then get back on Route 145.
This is as of Thursday morning.

Can anyone give me any news from the village of Schoharie ?
I was deployed there Monday morning by NYS fire and came home Wednesday afternoon. I am back to my "normal life" working in the shop, I can't think about anything but all the great people down there in the Bus garage that have been working since Sunday with very little sleep.
It was an honor for me to work with such good honest hard working people. The Niagara Engine company (Shoharie fire dpt) is number one in my book !

We spent the day in Schoharie yesterday. Helping carry the destruction to the curb. Big haulers and claw trucks are picking up peoples lives, putting them in those haulers and carrying everything away to a landfill.

I understand there has already been 85 homes condemed and will be taken down, with more to come. So many beautiful old homes will be gone. I also heard they have found more bodies, 15 more so far across the entire area (not just in Schoharie village proper).

Thank you for your kind words and service Ed. It is going to take a long time, but the people of Schoharie County are hard workers and proud of our area, we will rebuild!!!!!

I am here to help. Love the village of Schoharie. Where can I but go to help. I'm an Albany "girl" but would love to help in any way possible. Tell me where and what and I'm there. My husband is retired and can work anytime, anywhere. I'm available after school hours and any weekends, not afraid of mess, muck or anything really. Let us know
