river rats have gone south, maintaining is a reason for any closure of a state park. my reason for any conclusion isn`t closing areas ment for visitors or field trips for the young. what this state needs is areas that keep a reason to VISIT.

MAYOR BLOOMBERG AND CENTRAL AMUSEMENT INTERNATIONAL UNVEIL PLANS FOR EXPANDED OUTDOOR AMUSEMENT PARK IN CONEY ISLAND TO OPEN SUMMER 2010

Two New Amusement Areas - "Luna Park" and "Scream Zone - will Feature 23 New Rides, Including New Roller Coasters, a Human Sling Shot and Go-Karts

330 New Jobs to be Created by 2011 with Emphasis on Local Hiring

Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg and Central Amusement International (CAI) today unveiled plans for a new amusement park on three City-owned parcels in Coney Island that will open by Memorial Day 2010.

NYC City will invest over $150 million, together with millions more from the State and federal governments, to improve Coney Island's infrastructure.

An Additional $64 Million from the state to build an Asser Levy Seaside Park Amphitheater, some think it could cost 3 times that before completed.

That's where the money went! To help a NJ based amusement company.

Angry yet? Voting them all out will just bring in a whole new group of big money corrupt NYC politicians.
Doesn't matter what party they are from.

Vote for upstate NY to be a New State free from NYC taxes and influence.

You're all angry now. But come election time, you will go into the booth, start to panic, and pull the Democrat lever like you have for years. NY'ers are afraid of change. They only know one party, Democrat. It's been a one-party monopoly forever.

Learn a little NY history before making such a stupid post.
Our last Governor was George Pataki. A Republican, who was govenor from 1995 to 2006. The legisture was a republican majority for the last 52 years.
Thatcher Park Closing

I was under the impression that when John Thatcher gave the land to the state which now composes Thatcher part it was given with the caveat that the land be made available for the public to use and enjoy. If the state closes the park, then effectually it resends its agreement made when the land was donated.
Would it not logically follow that the land should go back to the Thatcher estate?

I took my kids camping last year and all they wanted to do was go to the ranger cabin and get a booklet like they did the previous year to do specific tasks at the camp and they would get a patch. It was a FUN, Learning experience and completeing the booklet gave the kids a sense of accomplishment. They learned about some good conservation issues, had fun, and earned a patch. Well , when we went to the Ranger station, the ranger said that the Gov had done away with that program?!?! Kids were dissapointed. So why does it suprise me they are know closing the Parks? Ridiculous! Now the kids can just hang out on the corners i guess. Lets not promote anything good for kids, lets just take away programs and close parks. All why giving themselves a Bonus probably! Is anyone else getting tired of this crap? Oh, one thing i did hear though was the govoner is trying to push through the TRANSGENDER equality bill or some thing. Lets spend the money on People of The TRANSGENDER nature, being sure they are treated with respect etc: Forget the kids. The Gov and this state are making me sick! NY is just about bankrupt. We can all enjoy paying hight taxes for what? Living here in an area with no parks and any places to go? Lived in the area all my life, and never seen it so bad..........sorry kids, no ranger patch this year. If ya want we can go look at the transsexuals though...how's that sound?

Why is this moron still stating this when it has been pointed out to him several times that republicans have had control of NY state legislature, until recently, for over 50+ years. Patiki, a republican, sent 12 years as govenor, and the last two and current mayors of NYC are republicans.

Must be just another partisan fool, not willing to learn the facts.
