This Newberry Square issue is very bad press for a town that needs jobs and investors in the community. Since Wal-Mart was built in 1995, the property values in West End of Cobleskill have been dropping like a stone. This area use to be energized by the college, but today it's a slum. Cobleskill is being run into the ground by people like Michael Piccolo. Mike is picking and choosing which codes to enforce on which properties. This selection is no accident. The town and village governments of Cobleskill have been involved in a culture of corruption for the last 35 years. The town and village trustees know the younger voters of Cobleskill (65% of Cobleskill’s population is younger than 30) are not “activity” engaged in the local politics. Cobleskill’s only saving grace is the town’s young mayor who is being kicked around Emil Galasso and his Multi-Million Dollar Schoharie County Empire.
They are attempting to run any outside investors out of Cobleskill in order to buy up land and property on the cheap by "real estate investment funds". Once the property values are at their lowest levels and all the buyers are gone, these corporations will buy the land or properties and rebuild. The property will later be sold (at three times the price) to retiring Baby-Booms from New York City. This type of “ghost and buy” tactic has been used across the South and is now making it’s way into Upstate New York.
If you think I am lying… Go see who is buying up the land around Cobleskill… Follow the money trial….. It’s very interesting….

Harry Loannou and his homeless looking sidekick thomas matter are NYC trash that should be run out of our town, it should be no surprise these two have something to do with another main street eye sore 551 main street,i was talking to some poor students that rented an apartment from these loosers,the kids parents came to visit there kid and almost had a heart attack over the filth and disrepair of the place and when they asked for the rent deposit back so the kid could find a new place,the bums refused,both the newberry square and that little 551 mess have plywood windows and i am tired of looking at them,meredith savitt should have to live with this looser in his squaller over on france lane in the other two of there junk buildings (small brick house and the old creamery all with plywood windows) she realy let us down....and im sick and tired of it!!!

Although not in Cobleskill, I am one of those New York Baby-Boomers who for the last 25 years has spilled cash into Schoharie County - I pay taxes - copunty, town, school and sales taxes. I take none of the services that residents take as far as school is concerned or public assistance.

Maybe creating jobs is a better answer than pointing fingers as to whether the downstaters or upstaters are to blame for the exonomic stagnation in Cobleskill.

ask the village board why did home depot leave cobleskill. cauz the board chased them out. home depot had enough of their crap.

look at all the other stores downtown that are empty.

the village board members should be smacked upside their heads for their ignorance.

bring industry in, dont chase them away......

I moved out of cobleskill years ago and it's sad to hear about my old town being rundown and abused,I don't know this Harry Loannou but have heard of him,when ever i go back to visit it makes me sad to see the old main street buildings boarded up and abandoned,why would these guys buy buildings in cobleskill to just let them sit empty and rot? i don't get it. hopefully they will get rid of loosers like these guy and return cobleskill to the nice little town it once was.
