I am a student at UAlbany, thus affected by cuts to the SUNY system. I am also married to a Professor who teaches at another SUNY campus. To those who would post, speaking in glittering generalities that seem to suggest that the entire system is "bloated" and full of employees who have unfair pay or benefit packages...I would like to suggest that you stop passing on empty rhetoric which has no personal knowledge or experience associated with it. Having previously worked in small businesses and in corporate America, I can truly attest that there are few jobs that are as "thankless" as teaching, and for which the monetary compensation is as poorly matched to the demands of the job. One of the main issues, as in Corporate America, is the "top-heavy" nature of these organizations with salaries that are significantly higher than those of the average "worker".

Any State, County, or local government employee has to have a complete BROWN NOSE. If there boss stops short in his/her steps, they would be consumed. As a former Schoharie County employee, I saw this. It is not what you know, it is who you know. I will agree that pay scales are VERY LOW in comparison to regular business. But the benefits and perks make it all worth it. No place will you get better health insurance, more time off for good behavior and a better pension plan.

You are thanked every time you have a medical need, paid for by taxpayers -- the same taxpayers who cannot afford the cushy medical insurance coverage you and your husband enjoy, and will continue to enjoy for the duration. Why is it that taxpayer funded insurance recipients DON'T GET IT !! The rest of us pay for you to have what we cannot afford. Of course we don't call THAT socialism. It is only socialism when it benefots the low-income people. Wake up and think about what you are saying. Apparently you also don't appreciate the time off you are given constantly!

How can you wine about a 3% budget cut when so many are being laid off. So many people are being faced with no job. That means 0 budget for that family. Be glad that it is only 3%. You government workers are so greedy at a time like this.
