lol. Have fun with that. This is ridiculous. Since when did the military make policies based on soldiers' opinions?
STALLING!
They just sound scared. I DO want this to be done right, but I really don't care how a bunch of insecure homophobics feel, and I'm sick of the military catering to them!

Meanwhile, the other militaries of the Western World have a hard time taking the Americans seriously.

What are they going to say, "I'm too unprofessional to work along side gay and lesbian soldiers."

Agreed with all comments above.

I repeatedly believe, when I talk about what laughingstocks we seem to other countries, that people think I am: making it up; engaging in hyperbole; seeing selectively; speaking metaphorically.

No. It's really, truly real. There are several comments made REPEATEDLY about Americans, including that we seem spineless, opinionated, constantly angry, constantly argumentative; and that we go into hysterics when our views are challenged.

As an addendum, my first thought when I saw the headline is reflected in the first post above.

Uhhhh, the military has suddenly become a democracy that LISTENS to its soldiers and CARES what they think?

Since when has the military *EVER* polled its ranks on policy? Am I dreaming this?

They. are. stalling.

The end.

Agreed. It is total B.S. having the troops "anonymously express their opinions". Not once during my 20 years did anyone EVER ask me to submit an anonymous opinion about military policy. That's not the way military leadership works. Troops are taught to take responsibility for their actions. If you're don't have the courage to say it publicly, then you don't have the courage to serve. Only cowards submit anonymous opinions, whether it's for or against a policy.

OMG! If anything this just tells us they're not changing the policy. For the first time ever in our history, I'm guessing, our military is taking an opinion poll of it's soldiers to see if they all comfy-and-cozy about a new policy. WTF is this? Club Med?

I haven't thought this before but there is definitely something wrong here. I bet you this policy is not going to be changed. There is absolutely no reason this opinion poll is happening and the fact that it is happening is cause for major alarm since nothing like this has happened before.

Remember, it's NOT up to the military whether this policy is changed or not. We know the majority of the military leadership is against a repeal of DADT, not necessarily because they're against gays serving openly, but because the thing the military leadership hates MOST is change of any kind.

Pressure needs to be put on CONGRESS; they're the ones who will or won't repeal DADT.

Don't you remember back in the months before they passes don't ask, don't tell??? They sent out an opinion poll to everyone in the military to make sure they would all be happy with the policy. You had 3 choices.

[_] Gays weird me out, kick them all out.
[_] I'm concerned that if a gay person sees me naked, they will rape me with their crazy homo-strength.
[_] I'm okay with gay people as long as i don't know they are gay, what i don't know, can't hurt me.

Maybe they'll let the troops vote on whether or not they want to deploy to Afghanistan next.
