At 6,000 a year part time salary, is the Village getting what it needs in a treasurer? Another Mayoral appointment perhaps? Your comments and views?

Seems the new treasure has a good back round for what we need. Don't think we can get any better considering what we can afford. I think its a good deal for us not sure how good the deal is for the new treasure. We the people have gotten a good deal. Doesn't make a difference if it is a Mayoral appointment its sounds like a good deal for us.

Well I was wondering how long it would take before Jim Griegel would be replaced. I'm actually shocked that he was allowed to stay on so long. While $6000 is not much for a "part-time" treasurer the position is statutorily required and much of the function is performed by Beverly S. and has been for years. I'm wondering how long Beverly will be allowed to continue in her position given the financial mess that the Village is in. I would imagine they'll keep her on as long as it takes for them to figure out her system--- TALK ABOUT JOB SECURITY!!!!

I'm wondering what happened to Beverly's 90 day evaluation also. With the financial mess the Village is in, a director of finance should have seen this coming a mile away. Not to mention, not being able to warn the Village in advance that it has no liquid cash to spend to pay vendors, salaries, etc. I find it hard to believe she had a good 90 day review...but then again, if she's making anything close to 6,000 a year part time, one could say you get what you pay for.

Maybe we could be in a even better position if we take the attorneys off the payroll. Why are they at every meeting? The legal bill have to be over $100,000 by now. Are we paying that bill or is the legal firm offering their services for free while we don't pay other vendors including skyline who we pay everytime we pay our water bills but they aren't receiving our money. EXCELLENT post Comments. Actually, my Daughter's Husband has a good friend that works for Skyline, that also verified that Sauk Village is about 2 months in arrears with its bills. Several other vendors have also gone unpaid at the admitted words of the Administration. How long before we are like the City of Gary Indiana where we have no refuse collection at all? I had suggested turning off every other streetlight along Sauk Trail. Recently, the City of Munster announced it was billed 16,000 per month for streetlights in its town by NIPSCO and by disconnecting streetlights in areas where they were not necessary, could save 8,000 per month in streetlighting costs. Also I suggested a 4 day 10 hour per shift work week for all Village Hall, and Administrative staff. This allows time to complete tasks, eliminates overtime, and reduces housekeeping and utility costs by 1 day per week. I don't know what it costs to pay Village Administrative staff, but I do know keeping lights on, cleaning people, etc. at Village Hall would be cut by 1 day a week. It has been done on the State level in some states, and it is really paying off in energy cost savings, and overtime savings. I would say that the village is getting a lot for their money with Carmichael. Perhaps Jim gave you what you paid for. This is an important position and the pay should be re-visited.

wth! they need another person with their hands in the money pot of sauk village?! They already have what, 4 people handling finances for the village. Hire on another one that they can't pay. Griegle was forced out just like the other department heads. She is just another one of the mayors people that he and the village manager hired. I feel so sorry for this town. its gone to hell in a matter of months.

What are you talking about? The Treasures position is not a new position. Carmichael is replacing Griegel, after his resignation on Oct. 23. The Village has to have a Treasurer, and I think they made an excellent choice with Carmichael. Also, the situation that the village is in did not just happen within a matter of months, but was caused by the OLD ADMINISTRATION. The NEW ADMINISTRATION just inheritated the problems. They seem to be on the right track to getting many of the problems fixed. I wish the best for the NEW ADMINISTRATION.

Gone to hell in the matter of months????? Where have you been living? Griegle got forced out??? He got in because he was drinking buddy's with the old Mayor. I felt sorry for the town but it seems like they are trying to get our town back where it should be. I don't think it matters what this new administration does it wont be good enough for some. Id like to know who you expect to do the hiring for that position. It is a required position. Like I said people are going to complain no matter what they do. annonomous wrote: wth! they need another person with their hands in the money pot of sauk village?! What qualifications does the NEW Treasure have? Does she have any besides being someones neighbor?? Griegel got forced to resign. He did his PART-TIME job and more. It will be very interesting to see how Carmichael does. If you knew anything about Griegel you would know that he wasn't one of the old Mayor's drinking buddy's since he never drinks. Maybe people should get some facts straight before posting.

Seriously, did you say drinking buddy? I fully support the statement that someone else previously posted. Jim does not drink. He performed his job and went above and beyond for many years. He has been a treasurer for the same investment company for the length of his career. Is that what you call unqualified? Kim wrote: Gone to hell in the matter of months????? Who said Jim was unqualified? Maybe you should reread my post. He has been buddy's with Peck way before he became Mayor. Maybe I assumed Jim drank , my bad. God knows his wife and the old Mayor does. Guess seeing as how they have been friends for so long its not that far off to assume, is it? Point being he was friends with the old Mayor before he became Mayor. That DID have something to do with him getting the job. I do KNOW that! We have common friends. So what if he was forced out, it is up to the new Mayor to run things down there in Village Hall the way he feels the need to. Good for Jim he still has his long time job to count on...no harm done not keeping his part-time job for the village, huh? We (the village)are in the hole financially so Jim went way beyond the call of duty, huh?

*Maybe just a friend like Jim was*. Next time I post maybe I should just get the facts from you then just your point of view would be posted.. Are you going say they haven't been friends for years? This I do know! I do know that is a FACT!!! I might be wrong about Jim drinking but Im not wrong that they have been friends for years and that is the point I was making. Can you say he didn't get his job by having connections? I have no problem saying Im glad they are getting rid of the old Mayors club and putting new in. The ones in power direct where the Village is going. I can say along with MANY people we are tired of the old garbage. Thank you so much for your nasty comment about getting the facts before I post. I wonder if Jim did that great job for a $6,000 a year. That position involves money and the Village is now broke...Great job he did way beyond the call of duty. Nice old club they had going up there, now look where they have taken us. I say force them all out start anew. Thank you and so long to them. sara wrote: What qualifications does the NEW Treasure have? Does she have any besides being someones neighbor?? Griegel got forced to resign. I agree, I would like to know the answer for that. Has anyone asked the Mayor directly that question? toofunny wrote: <quoted text>it seems funny to me that nobody is calling for Beverly's head on a stick....she had the most to do with the money... way more then Jim... and yet she seems to be taking no blame at all..... hmmmm I wonder why ???????

In this mad rush to find someone to blame for the village's financial problems, doesn't anyone notice that many other villages are having similar problems? When property taxes are going unpaid due to home foreclosures and the state of Illinois doesn't have enough money to send municipalities their share of the state income tax, it isn't some local official's failing. In the words of the 1992 Bill Clinton campaign, "It's the economy, stupid!"

Very good point Willers. Glenwood, Lynwood, and even Homewood are having similar financial difficulties as well. If you look at it on a State budget crisis level, Illinois ranks 3rd for the most severe budget shortfalls and unable to balance their budgets. The trickle down effect to Villages and Towns is just now starting to be realized. And stop gap measures such as red light cameras, increased fines and fees, and prices for Village stickers isn't going to even scratch the surface. Ironically, the deficit figures and ranking for most dire of financially strapped states closely mirrors the same numbers in foreclosure numbers as well. Mayor Towers announced a 90 day review of all department heads when he took office in may. To date he's done nothing but push good people out and replace them with his supports. Follow the money!! Where did Towers get all the money to buy his way into office? Why? Is Sauk Village worth that much? The Village has been struggling fianacially for years. Now the economy tanks and Towers blames everyone else! Where's the Mayor we elected to make those difficult decisons about cut-backs. Oh yeah, he's busy hiring his supports. Go to a village sometime and watch the circus. A sad day!

trojan-horse, sounds like you answered your own question, Mayor Towers did not just push people out and replace them, but his replacements were based on their own 90 day performance reviews. Their performances must not have been satisfactory, and required further action, such as replacement. This sounds logical to me. (This must be one of those difficult decisions that you mentioned that the Mayor had to make). In regards to Mayor Towers getting into office, (where have you been, this is an elected position, not a bought position) he was elected into office by the people. Now, one thing you did get correct is that, the old administration caused the village to be in the financial struggle that we're now in. This was not caused by Mayor Towers.
