Couple get 6 months for stealing $1 million from relative

A former Schaumburg couple were sentenced Friday to 6 months in the DuPage County Jail for stealing about $1 million from the husband's elderly father.

The most likely reason they got caught was because either the cousin, or the charity realized they were getting stiffed. At least they were able to recover the money, but six months seems too light of a sentence.

We have to give the judge credit for hearing this case, coming to a decision and actually affixing a sentence. Who knows what would be reasonable? However, the money has been recovered and the man is liable to lose his right to that inheritance, so he is already paying a heavy price for his financial manipulations. Frankly, I find it an incredible story and wonder how the judge was able to set any sentence at all or that the government was able to file charges. What area of the law is this, I wonder?
