If you were on a website looking at a product and it stated pricing structure, site license $500 and then when you proceeded to checkout the price was at $650; would you say something? This just recently happened to me with a local business owner in Plattsburg MO named Rick Tharp. The company name is Rx Kinetics and I was looking at a software program on his website rxkinetics.com . I am going to attach excerpts from his e-mails back and forth to me. I am adding to this blog to show what kind of man or neighbor you may have.
This was my original e-mail to him regarding the price discrepancy: Company Gerber Memorial Health Services > >About Kinetics > > > >Message On the website, it states that the Kinetics program site license > >is $500. When I went to checkout it was priced at $650. I was granted by > >the hospital auxillary guild shop the $510 in order to buy the software, > >not $660 with shipping and handling. Why is there a huge price > >discrepancy? Also, it is my understanding that if you advertise one > >price, you cannot change the price at checkout. Please advise. Thank you. > > This was his response to me: From: Rick Tharp [mailto:ricktharp@rxkinetics.c om] >Sent: Tuesday, September 30, 2008 5:41 PM >To: Morrison, Carrie >Subject: Re: Question from web form > >Dear Carrie, > >The "huge" price discrepancy is because I had to raise prices after 10 >years at the same price. > >Thanks for pointing out the one place on the web site where I didn't update >the price. That is my mistake. Sorry I'm not perfect, are you? > >And sorry if you feel one-time license of $650 is too much to pay for >unlimited installations at your hospital, and free lifetime updates. > >My advice? I guess, try to find another software vendor. > >Thanks again for pointing out my mistake, >Rick > Then my response to him: At 08:01 AM 10/1/2008, you wrote: >Wow! You are very rude! If you do not want the business then I guess >another software vendor will be just fine. If you would have responded >with some decency I may have considered the higher price. > >Thanks for being such a rude jerk, >Carrie Then his response to me: And up yours you old hag!! At this point, I e-mailed a complaint to the Better Business Bureau and the Consumers Affairs Department at the State of Missouri. This is something I usually would never do but I could not believe his responses. I copied him on the e-mail to the better business bureau that attached all the string of e-mails I have showed to you thus far. He then e-mailed me the following that will probably be blocked from your view: From: Rick Tharp [ricktharp@rxkinetics.com] Sent: Wednesday, October 01, 2008 10:07 AM To: Morrison, Carrie Subject: Re: FW: Question from web form whore slut bitch I know e-mails can sometimes not sound the way you intended but he was completely out of line. Especially his last e-mail. |

Yes, his last few E-Mails were out of line. In the first response re: the price differance, he did apologize and suggested you look for another vendor if you needed to stay at the lower price. Your response is what ticked him off, an things went downhill from there.
He and his company have exellant software at a low price.$650 is not much for an enpterprise version (with unlimited licenses) Our hospital has used his software for years and have not had a problem. Remeber, this is only a side busisness as he is a full time pharmacist and teachs. The software actually resulted from his interaction with students and finding a better way to teach them. Just look at the online tutorials. I think you just caught him at a bad time and should have worked with him. Afterall, his was providing you with a product you wanted. He didn't solict you. Rss |

Yep, I was out of line. She got my goat with that last email. I was on my 7th night of 12 hour night shifts, completely sleep deprived, and had lost my mind.
I write software as a sideline to help my fellow pharmacists. I do not advertise, market, or solicit customers for my programs. This is a nonprofit venture, all my fellow pharmacists whom I have the pleasure to interact with realize that. I consider them to be colleagues, not customers. Bottom line, never send an email when you are angry, especially to a vengeful person like this. And for that I have many regrets.
