They've had these machines in Japan for years. The US is always playing catch-up in the novelty arcade industry. Write your congress person today, and demand that they address this crtical gap immediately!:-)

Two dollars for a chance to nab a lobster and then have it cooked for dinner? Great idea!

Well, what do you expect, parlo, from Doug's gift shop on Main Street. Sheesh. Gold plated zippo lighters and platinum plungers?

I saw the machine and was concerned about how fresh the lobsters are. So, I went online and found that
Red Lobster Restaurants sells live lobsters online.

I have eaten them at their restaurant in the past and ordered a few online they came the next day and were great!

Your first comment makes a point, Gordon.

Now, I am totally going to agree,(but probably be flamed) for saying the lobsters have SUCH a big chance of being OLD. Nobody in the right mind is going to give lobsters away unless:

1: The machine is rigged,(like alot of other arcade claw machines ;P)
2: The lobsters are old, and they don't want to sell them at risk of a bad complaint.
3: Think about it, its not like adults are the greatest at arcade-claws anymore,$2.00 for a play isn't that amazing, most game machines are .50 cents/$1.00 for a play, if someone used $2.00 5 times a day, and didn't get a lobster, thats $10.00 in the owners pocket, that a nice bit of change, anyone agree?

Now you have to think about it, we're living in MAINE people, you walk out your house and go catch a lobster! Or some of you even have a great place to catch them right OUTSIDE your house!!

Now we must think a bit, Scarborough is fairly large,(->fairly<-), and chances are, since its new- the machine is going to be used quite alot.

And my last comment- this is NOT the first time this ever happened, when I lived in Daytona Beach Florida, on the beach-strip, and on the pear, the fishing shop had TWO games like this, one giving lobsters, another one was the 'shrimpscoop', which was much more fair, where you could get a couple raw shrimp for $1.00, with one of those cool ring-ding sounds if you won, so people loved it.

Overall, I've never tried the lobster ones, and maybe they are more fair then I think, all I'm saying is I go to wal-mart, and even they dont want you paying $1.00 to get a .50 cent animal.

I dont find it that fun, you play for 2 seconds, lose, and then say:

"Holy crap on wheat... I just lost 2 bucks playing a game for 2 seconds!"

Its called common sense, kicks in :P

I am assuming the lobsters are alive, right? If so, then how much more fresh can you get? Alive is fresh. Dead 1 day-ok, as long as they are kept cold...dead for 2 days or more...not so ok.

Cows ain't mooin' when you put 'em on the grill are they?(OK...not normally)

The bugs are ok as long as they are kept cold. As always, you want to check the meat after cooking. The meat should be firm and white, not mushy, bluish, or smell really nasty. Trust me, you will know it if it smells bad. Granted, the best lobster is put into the pot alive. As long as you buy it alive, you can salvage your investment by cooking even the ones that die.
