The VP that you are talking about was the only one who addressed her concerns. Mr. Simon was the one that completely dismissed her. If you were there you would know that. You also would know that the VP that you love to hate went and spoke directly to the Bayview mothers who got up and spoke. We are all having the same problem in the elementary schools regarding the cafeterias. Hopefully they can come up with a reasonable solution. If you spent time discussing this issue with the VP you would know that she has a lot of great ideas on how to make this problem disappear such as sending the kids back to their classrooms during indoor recess.
My gracious. Can you crawl up Annmaries nether regions any further? I understand she voted to keep open your oquenock, but have some dignity woman! Sending kids back to classrooms during indoor recess is a "great idea" ? No, a great idea would have been to combine the middle schools, which she voted against. A great idea would be to vote against giving pay raises to everyone in the district, which she didnt. A great idea would be for you to go away and stop using these forums to satisfy some perverse desire that you have to constantly be the center of attention. This board of ed in this town has been allowed to waste our money and run roughshod over our schools because people like you allow them.

Isn't it amazing how easily and quickly our shuttered schools were leased? Nothing this BOE/administration has ever done has gone so smoothly.
Every issue for these people is like pulling teeth, between the red tape, the foot dragging, the hair splitting, the excuses, it's one excuse after another, they put the community through a rigmarole on just about everything.
However, when it's time to lease a school, and coincidentally in the process the lightbulb goes on, with a creative personal touch, have you ever seen anything handled so incredibly well suddenly?
The bottom line is that when it's personal, it's amazing how fast and quickly people can act to accomplish what they want!!
Good or bad, when something is in it for them, or will have repercussions that effect their world, see how quickly they suddenly go into action.
Suddenly there is no red tape, doors open, it's like the parting of the Red Sea.
Why then does the majority of this refuse to even vote during school board elections? I agree with what you wrote but the fact is the voters of this town are to blame for the continued decline of our school district at the hands of this secretive, condescending, self serving board.

I AGREE the best option would have been to combine middle schools. 100%. I still dont think what they did was right. I also agree 100% that Simon and the others shouldnt have gotten raises. I do not have a perverse desire to be the center of attention. Sorry to burst your bubble. I just say what I think, just like you do. Do YOU have a perverse desire to be the center of attention? You shouldnt accuse me of such things when you are on here speaking your mind as well. I DONT allow them to do any such thing. Trust me, ask any of them, I complain plenty when I dont agree with them.

Ha! You are so funny. Because I agree with her on one thing that makes me her campaign manager?? Why dont you wake up and get a clue? Instead of making it the We All Hate Ann Marie Show why dont you get a clue, do some research, know what you are talking about, and understand what is actually happening instead of picking fights with people? Seriously, now that they closed the two elementary schools and we are dealing with the aftermath should we really let the two buildings stand vacant collecting dust? Come on. Be reasonable.

You're not referring to me "Einstein", I never asked you for jack because nothing you say as far as I am concerned holds any weight. You have proven that your point of view is always changing, it cannot be trusted. I also never thought for one minute you are a BOE member, although you would make a pretty good one going by your volatile and inconsistant and unpredictable, nature.
So by your logic we should just hate every move the Board makes and constantly hate them. Oh we will get far with that tactic. Again you prove your genius. Here is the thing, either we work together or we all go down. Maybe you should climb out from under the rock you are living under, show your face, let them know who you actually are, and they will then have a discussion with you about your concerns. I dont entirely agree with sending the kids back to their classrooms for recess either. Yes it would mean hiring more aids because you cant expect the teachers to watch them - they need their time to grade papers, plan lessons, etc., I discussed this at the meeting which was sparesely attended. No one bothers to show up, they just get on here under their fake names and start bashing people and talking about hearsay and things they have no clue about because they cant be bothered to show up to anything or do anything except cyberbully people. Oh I heard this one said this at the meeting and this one did this...yeah but you werent there and you have no clue! Seriously. Get involved. One thing I can say about this board...I dont have to agree with anything they do, but the will come speak to me about things BECAUSE they know who I am since I am not hiding myself behind some stupid alias. The energy you people spend coming up with your bs names just so you can say what you think......it makes me sad. You should be allowed to say what you think and you shouldnt be embarrassed to come out and say it. Why do you feel so ashamed? Probably because you behave like a teenaged mean girl on your posts. Grow a set of balls and say something. You might be surprised...people might actually respect you.

You are deluded. Keep thinking that these people actually care about YOUR THOUGHTS ON ANYTHING. If they had it their way, they wouldn't have open meetings, you should know this by now after all the historical bad treatment, which doesn't get white washed over time. Maybe to people like you it does, but the damage is done.
I don't believe they should have closed two elementary schools.
One should have been closed. The one that was open in 2000.
Leave the middle schools alone, leave the rest alone and get rid of the fluff we've purchased and implemented like the IB program.
This adjustment stuff is OUTRAGEOUS! The nerve of these numbnuts to have come to these conclusions and now we have a comfy arrangement at Westbrook, how delicious, how perfectly set up.
This isn't rocket science miss Jessica. Go to your meetings and show your face, obviously it hasn't done one ounce of good, all it is is an exercise in futility.

If you look at the whole country, our systems of governance has left tax payers extremely jaded. The struggle to make ends meet on a day to day basis is the reality of the constituency. Time is spent just getting by doing the basics of every day living. It was that way many years ago. With two parents out of the home and into the workforce, distractions from the current events, the end game is to get home, feed the kids, do the laundry, run the errands, run to practices and games, get the homework done, prepare for the next day. I see it all the time.
If it's a question of getting involved in the local politics or relaxing for a half hour in front of the real housewives of stupidville, typically that's all the hard working adult has any energy for. It's mindless fodder. It doesn't require any deep thinking. They pour a cup of tea, plop the laundry down and while watching some idiot show, they accomplish two things at once.
They have lost control. They are not up to speed anymore. They cannot carry a converstation about anything going on in our country any longer. They have no idea what the agendas of the BOE or this administration is. They have left these difficult decisions up to the people that were voted in to make. That's all they have the energy for.
I know you know this. I hear your frustration, and I used to believe that WHEN it gets personal, people start to change their habits, they start to pick their heads up, really SEE what is happening in the political worlds around them and get involved.
The most important aspect of this personal change is to hold the people elected to accountability. Get them out of office.
Stop being so politically correct.

People realize these BOE meetings are simply smoke screens to make the community think they have a voice and that they are being listened to when really this is BS! The board could care less what we have to say as all their decisions are made well before we hear about them. Obviously they didn't decide to close two schools overnight and I too, believe SSCC knew where they hoped to relocate in advance. How is it possible that Westbrook gets a bus circle in the back of the school that doesn't end up fitting buses??? A professional person must have had to be involved to help "design" this new structure. Didn't they know it wouldn't work? But conveniently cars do fit and conveniently it will serve well for people to drop off and pick up their children from the preschool that's going in. Wake up! These decisions were all made long ago!!! As far as Mr. Simon goes... Why would he care as he has been actively looking for a new job since all this crap went down? If you wanted out of your job and were looking, wouldn't that make you work a little less hard at your current job? It's no wonder he can't look people in the eye who bravely get up at BOE meetings!

Exactly my point. The people of this town are to blame. No matter how tired they are it does not take a lot of time or energy to look at your ever rising school tax bill while at the same time see the decline in our schools. It does not take a lot of energy to tap on a website and see how much our administration officials are making and the big raises this board gives to them and the unionized employees. Because of the ease of access to information using the internet there is absolutely no reason anyone in this town should be so grossly uninformed except, of course, because of laziness. To go vote may take an hour out of your year at the most. Anyone who is not informed or who doesnt vote is either lazy or does not care. We have a lot of both in this town.
"The most important aspect of this personal change is to hold the people elected to accountability. Get them out of office."
Exactly my point again. But 95% of the voters in this town dont vote during the board elections. The incumbents have their little power bases in place and they get out to vote. The rest of the town allows, at most, 5% of their fellow west islipers to control their kids destinies in school as well as their wallets because of the taxes that keep going up. That is disgraceful. People need to get up off their asses and vote. Case in point will be the next election. There are three seats up. I'll bet all three get reelected and i guarantee at least one will run unopposed.

i think its great that the boe is renting out the schools but isnt it a conflict of interest when a boe member who decides to close the school with the most square footage moves her daycare center into that same school? i dont know but that sounds like it might be illegal if anyone out there can explain to me if it is illegal or just morally wrong please do

It isnt illegal as she no longer has a stake in that business. I know no one wants to believe it but you can see the actual documents dissolving their partnership which was shown at the vote. She also recused herself from all discussions and the actual vote itself as she has a personal relationship with the owner of the preschool.

Can't argue with a single word you wrote. I am sticking to my theory though. It's not a good enough excuse, lazy, jaded, you know plain old apathetic, unconcerned, not a priority, but you're right.
So the small few who are in lock step with all the goings on, head to the polls and vote, no one runs for this job because it's not monetarilly rewarding, and the only thing to gain from it is power grabbing and ego, or for political aspirations down the road.(although there are, and have been a few, who run for the right reasons, and stay in there if only to be the lone voice in the midst of darkness)To those honorable people, I admire them a great deal.

Do you remember the smoke in mirrors "study group" that was formed to include input from our community? It's all a game. Was there a study group formed to decide who should occupy what shuttered elementary school? Look how quietly and quickly this subject was lassoed in, wrapped up, and settled. What motivation!

Exactely!! I personally have a friend who was on the study group and I can tell you this person was not too happy as they realized their precious time was wasted on this study as it was all BS and believe me, their precious time was extensive!!! I realize that school politics can work this way and our mothers and fathers would probably laugh at us and say that this is nothing new, however, I feel this is really playing dirty more so than usual.

I can only imagine how your friend must have felt being deceived and used in that charade, especially going into the study group thinking that being involved in the process was a geniune attempt to resolve a seriously unfortunate problem for our kids.
It's not going to be ignored by me that the matter of the leased schools was handled in the most remarkably expeditious manner compared to the way the decision to close two ES went down.
Now here we are dealing with the consequences of this foolishness and all the heart felt sympathy fixes NOTHING! All these screwed up decisions were the mastermind of EDUCATORS????? Speaks volumes!
