Mr. Bartlett, you have my condolences.

Yes, something has to change. We the People must demand that the politicians stop pandering to special interests and tax evasion, and start enforcing our laws. Anyone who drives without a license should be up on serious charges.

It takes two to tango..."running a red light" is just as serious. Forget the dump truck, what if a "normal" car were hit by a driver running a red light (all drivers have valid licenses)? Just as terrible. Yes, legals/illegals, with/without valid licenses should be held accountable, and so should the person running a red light/running a stop sign, etc. Really, these types of infractions are common sense. People should get with the entire program.

Mr. Shelland, last time I checked, Cuba was not under jurisdiction of the United States. Korematsu v. the United States. Look it up, read it. The Supreme Court held that any enemy held on foreign soil, could be detained indefinately and denied access to our domestic courts. This is precisely why these terrorists are being held in Cuba and not Florida or Colorado.

But I'm sure when the next terrorists attack, not if, occurs, you'll be one of the first ones to criticize this administration for not gathering enough information and intelligence to prevent it.

James Shelland: Remember your comments, the next time we're attacked and your relatives die. What you fail to realize is: We're at war. A war that is trying to take away this country. If we give these "people" the same rights that Americans have, we've lost. But that is something I think you want. You want America to fall. So do all liberals. You think we should do what we did after the 1993 attack: Conduct a police investigation. That worked real well. NOT! That hurt this country and this decision will also hurt us. Why don't we just release all the Gitmo prisoners? Can they live with you? You love them so much, why not?

"These Terrorists?" Really? Who said so? Or are they people who were swept up because they were in the wrong place at the wrong time?

Or maybe just brown people with funny names and accents?

I thought the purpose of their detention was to find out IF they are terrorists or NOT.

If they were so ordained, by whom I don't know- then where are the charges against them? And by what evidence?

If you believe what you write, then simply advocate taking whomever we want to brand a terrorist, and shooting them on the spot. No need for Gitmo. Think of the taxpayer money we'd save.

It sounds like you are one of those people who want to "Kill them all, and then let God sort them out."

If that's the way you really feel, then be a man and admit it, instead of jerking the rest of us around with your half-a$$'d arguments.

You are yet another clown with a big mouth, no brains, and no guts.

To "The Book"

"You are yet another clown with a big mouth, no brains, and no guts."

Talk about no guts! You don't even sign your name.

I am touched by your concern over the treatment of "the detained". I wonder if there are any bleeding heart liberals like you in those middle eastern countries giving a rats *** when westerners are being beheaded and their bodies paraded before the cameras. Get your head out of the sand and realize that people like you will probably be the first ones to become victims when and if we are taken over by those zealots.

undocumented immigrant is a lovely way of calling someone who is here ILLEGALLY.

God forbid we enforce our immigration laws, this person who should not have been in this country would not have been able to kill your brother.

This is one example of thousands, yes thousands, where ILLEGAL aliens kill LEGAL Americans whether in car accidents, with brutal force or even rape.

Indeed. I'll take my head out of the sand as soon as you take yours out of your rectum and realise that I am not nearly as concerned with the detainees as I am about due process, our constitution, and our integrity as a nation.

That you paint such a grim, paranoid picture says volumes about your courage. Just the thought of some rag-tag terrorist sends you quaking in your boots and running in search of a big strong Daddy to protect you.

I am not afraid of terrorists, and I won't let my life be dominated by fears of the same. Fearful yellow cowards like you, who are more than willing to throw away everything that makes the USA special and unique in the world, handed the terrorists a greater victory than they could ever have hoped to buy with all of their guns, bombs and mayhem.

Nothing can protect us from terrorism. It's terrible when it happens, but there are a million other things with a far greater chance of sending me to my maker than some psycho with a bomb, and I don't have time to worry about those things, either because I am too busy living. You should try it sometime.

I grieve for those lost on 9/11, but we have lost many more to wars and life, in general. It would be a dishonor to let their deaths result in the USA becoming a police state.

Did the brave men and women of the US Armed forces die in vain to protect the rights of people like you who are too ignorant to understand and preserve the special freedoms that Americans enjoy in the world?

I sure hope not, but reading the oceans of drool from you and other morons makes me wonder every time.

9-11 was not a modern day invasion? Do you think anyone would invade an army into our nation? The answer is NO, the only way someone could 'invade' is exactly how it was done on 9-11.
Do you think if these terrorists get out they are going to go home and start their day job again? Oh right, they will, their day job is KILLING as many Americans as they can at all costs, including their own death.
I am an independent, I do not in any way shape or form like our current president, however, give us a break these people are terrorists no different than an invading army.
They should have no rights....and if an American were in the same situation under the care of a terrorist organization you can rest assured they would be tortured, abused, and beheaded. With that said, they are lucky to be alive regardless of how long they have been held. We have been civil to them and they deserve NOTHING more.
The 4 who dissented certainly show it is far from a black and white case. Those 4 could obviously recognize the dangers of what could happen if we give them a chance at freedom.

No facts, no substance, no truth, only insults and ranting. Textbook liberal. I love how you guys covet the rights of terrorists over the rights of your fellow Americans, it makes me sick. If you find some guy in a cave in Afghanistan with crates of C-4, automatic weapons and RPG's, shooting at American GI's, does that certify as enough evidence to suit your massive ego?

Look what happened when we gave the guys responsible for the '93 bombing of the WTC access to our courts. We couldn't interrigate them because they lawyered up, and we couldn't get the information necessary to prevent 9/11 and many other al Queda plots.

And also typical to a liberal response, you tell us what you don't want to do, not what you want to do. So what do you suggest we do with these guys? Let them walk the streets of America? Many of their home countries are refusing to let them back in or these guys don't want to go back, because they know they will be tortured and interrigated in their home countries.

Oh, Tom... I asked YOU what you would do. Kyll dem all and let God sort them out? I don't have any problem with you if you really believe that. If you do, then BE A MAN and say so. That's all I am asking of you. Just write to your congressmen and tell them that you want any one found in a cave in Afghanistan with crates of C-4, automatic weapons and RPG's, shooting at American GI's, to be shot on-site.

Do you know if everyone in Gitmo was caught that red-handed? If so, then it should have been very easy to justify shooting them on the spot, or at least filing charges.

Finally, cut the straw-man crapola about me being a bleeding-heart, yadda, yadda, yadda. That's not even original enough to be interesting. Don't you guys ever get any new material?

For the last time, this isn't about the detainees. Holding anyone WITHOUT CHARGES for 6 years is WRONG, and a stain on our national honor, and destroys our moral authority in the world. With the planet becoming ever more unstable and dangerous, we need that authority more than ever.

I also laugh at your feeble attempts to manipulate me through fear by painting all kinds of comic-book scenarios about the swarthy hoardes who want to kill us. Sorry, dude- but I lived in NY during 9/11, and I don't scare that easily.

Sure, lots of folks want to kill Americans. That sucks. But I have no time to worry about being blown up by some Islamist nut-case, or any of the other millions of other things which could cause my untimely demise- on the over all scale of things, the probability of me getting killed by a terrorist is way too low to worry about, and definitely too low to sell my precious American freedoms down the river so I can get some false comfort.

I'm too busy living.

How often do you walk through Penn Station? or do you live in Bumbledick and your only worry is that your local fire department gets enough funding for the hazmat suits they'll never need? how about we preserve the constitution but inject common sense (as opposed to only PC rules and coddling) into how we handle our enemies.

Hey Jane - from Babylon (or is it Philadelphia?)

Not that it shoulr even matter, but I have lived and worked in NY Metro for over 45 years before moving south to retire, and I still have plenty of family in NY, so don't freakin' lecture me about Penn Station, OK?

We are in trouble if so-called Americans like you see Habeas Corpus, Due Process AND THE UNITED STATES CONSTITUTION as just so much "PC rules and coddling."

Why do you hate America?

PS- My fellow "Bumbledickians" down here know what time it is. They are good hard-working people and they know BS when they hear it. Let me tell you- you're gonna be in for a big surprise in November.

To "The Book". Sorry I called you "Booklet" before. After reading more of your letters, I now know you are nothing more than "Pamphlet". The surprise will be yours, because most of the nation knows your kind, and more letters like yours will wake up the rest. And insulting the educational level of Texans, will not endear yourself to those west of the Smokies. I hereby re-invite you to come to Texas and learn there IS life outside of your little circle ostriches.
