very sad that this happened to the officer,he made a bad mistake and made a bad call with this pyscho who was on a roof, before any of you make you nasty comments, have you been a police officer ever?have you ever worked in the ghetto of brooklyn?I feel very sorry for his family and kids,I think him being arrested would have not been as bad atleast he would be able to see his family but now he can never,a police officer is a very tough job everyday all you do is deal with the negatives of the world.

newsday persecuted this poor guy till he committed suicide. they showed up at his house to "question" him and put him to shame. after all, the cop was white and the miscreant was a minority. over the years newsday has done SO MUCH DAMAGE to the people of long island. this poor guy is one more victim.

This is a terrible tragedy all the way around. The poor officer made a terrible mistake and the media was gearing up to crucify him. Such a shame. My condolences to both families.

What does race have to do with it newsday killed cop? It's a tragedy no matter what the race was between cop & miscreant. Pigott was no bigot.(pardon the rhyme) All the good things he did throughout 21 years went in the toilet when this incident occurred. Folks put yourself in a cop's shoes & see what you have to go through. You have to make split second decisions & sometimes the wrong decision will come back & bite you in the ass. Sadly, officers take it personal and at times, suicide can happen. Not surprised that cops have a high suicide rate. Horrible to the families of Iman Morales & Mr Piggott. Condolences to both on their losses. May they both RIP & May God give their families the strength to carry on through these difficult times.

Yes its a tragedy, but its even a bigger tragedy that this officer left behind a wife and children to fend for themselves, basically losing his job was worse than his children not having a father

You cant blame Newsday for the cops actions. 99.999% of people they 'persecute' do not commit suicide. If anything blame the mandatory counseling he was sent to that didn't catch the extreme and dangerous nature of his depression.

This case is the definition of tragic!

If your a Police officer its your Sole duty to serve and protect. A nut job who shouldnt of been out on the street was on the roof doing something that he shouldnt be doing. Nude? the police officers did whatever they can to protect them selves and keep him from doing any damage.what do you do? stun him. better than shooting him. its not
Lt. Michael Pigott fault. he did his job.. R.I.P

RIP. Maybe next time the "media" and the populace can try to be in the cops shoe's a little. It's an increbibly tough job with high stress and has the highest sucide rate and lowest life expectancy around. Makes you wonder why many even take this job. Oh yes now we have pass the test get the job in the city, wonder how that happened.

God Bless the family.

From Newsweek

Every year, between 300 and 400 doctors take their own lives—roughly one a day. No other profession has a higher suicide rate.

Ok high, not highest, so what. I also suspect there are alot more doctors then police as well. Semantics, and still waiting for a nice word from you. Not going to get it because you are a cop hater for sure. Good for you.

As for the test, it's a shame but the city is desperate to hire new cops. Weird in such bad economic times. Wonder why?

He was cited many times for excellent work so be quiet unless you know what you are talking about.

NYC is now down one good cop all because of a nutbag that wasn't where he belonged, locked up in a hosiptal.
