ELK CITY, Okla.(AP)- The California Department of Corrections plans to withdraw its inmates out of a private Oklahoma prison where a brawl took place last year.

California corrections spokeswoman Dana Simas told radio station KECO Friday that all 2,323 inmates are scheduled to be removed from the North Fork Correctional Facility in Sayre by December 2013.

The prison is operated by Nashville, Tenn.-based Corrections Corporation of America.

At least 46 inmates received medical treatment after prisoners fought at the facility in October. One inmate was stabbed, but no staff members or law enforcement officers were injured.

Company officials told the station it's too early to tell whether any of the 400 jobs at the facility will be affected. If there are reductions, officials will first leave vacant positions unfilled before cutting the staff.

O.....North Fork Correctional Facility will probably pick up another cntract before they have to close those doors again. I am positive that CCA has already been looking into other contrats with different states. "hint Florida"......... So everyone needs to stop being negative and stay positive.

I don't really think Florida is in need of hauling their Florida inmates to Oklahoma.... It'd be stupid of them considering how many jobs they'd be taking away from floridians!

Unless some serious changes are made, they will not pick up any contract for some time. They are severely understaffed, even when all positions are filled. The policies that are followed from CCA are very slack. CCA needs to have a serious rewrite of their policies and budget for more employees at this facility, no one is going to contract with them. Especially with the national coverage of the riot, it's going to be tough. I hope that CCA has some sort of funds to keep the employees going until they figure out another contract or the employees find new employment...other than the obvious Unemployment that does not pay nearly enough.

You are really not smart are you? Prisons have riots all the time. The California Inmates are not getting pulled because of any riot, Cali is use to riots, trust me! They are getting pulled because the contract is almost up and Cali can not afford to send inmates out plus from what I understand it is about the courts and feds saying those inmates was never suppose to leave the state of CA. But CA Governer "Arnold" at the time pushed for them to get transferred out of state. Start knowing the facts before you speak retard.

The contract is almost up true but the inmates were sent out of state so that California could show that they were complying with the court order regarding the number of inmates in the prison. They are still under that court order and they still have nowhere to put any inmates they send back, that is why the ones leaving are going to the other Cali facilities. Cali is trying to ease the pressure on NFCF because we are so understaffed.

They ARE NOT returning to California. Cali has aready announced that. Do your research 'retard'. They are shopping for other privately owned and operated prisons through out the states. They are actually conversing with one in Nebraska and Texas. The information you people are being fed is from CCA trying to sugar coat everything. Start researching outside the CCA walls and you'll get the reals facts.

So next you are going to say that NorthFork was not shut down in 2003 when Wisconsin pulled their inmates. That caused 200 people to lose their jobs. Now there are nearly 400 employeed by this prison. CCA was not even communicating with the prison as it should. Northfork was notified by California about the removal, NOT CCA. CCA did not make any type of announcement until AFTER California made it public. CALIFORNIA IS WITHOUT A DOUBT REMOVING ALL THEIR INMATES FROM SAYRE. This has been announced at 2 different press conferences held by California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. .

Just curious about all the comments. It sounds like some of you know each other and some may be CO's but I must say it's sad the way some of y'all are carrying on. NFCF should definately be closed down. It's sad at the lack of training the CO's have and they are rude and lack compassion for inmates and their families. There is more to consider than just CO's and thier jobs.
