Officials from two of those law enforcement agencies said last week they aren't investigating the Camaro case.

OSBI spokeswoman Jessica Brown said via a text message that OSBI is not handling the case. It belongs to Custer County.

Custer County Sheriff Bruce Peoples said OSBI is handling the case.

The sheriff's department forwards unattended and unexplained death cases to OSBI, he said.

“Boy, was this ever unexplained and unattended,” Peoples said.

The car was in low gear when found, and the shifter was moved after discovery. The steering wheel was turned just before entry into water, and the vehicle rotated during the 2-3 minutes it took to reach the lake bottom. No mystery, they're history.

You can't prove that any more than I can prove the car was found in neutral and the damage was done upon removal. The car went in tail first, because there are no undercurrents and it's not possible. The kids were dead or unconscious before they hit the water, because they never moved from their seats. They weren't drunk, the 2 bottles of beer were found in the trunk. Why is it so important that this is glossed over? What do you know? It's a crime if no one is following through on this case.

One of the HiPo's at the scene said it was in low gear, before he jiggled the shifter. The inertia of turning at entry into the water caused the car to rotate as it slowly settled to the bottom. It was just an unfortunate accident, no matter how badly some disturbed individuals wish it was murder.

I'm no fan of sheriffs, highway patrol, bureaus of investigation, and soforth but hey man, they have formed an actual 'committee'. While deliberately dunking and shoveling down cases of doughnuts at their committee meetings, they will be diligently going through every bit of oodles of fascinating new evidence with a fine-toothed comb, no matter how long it takes, no matter how much it costs, to the delight of all hoping for a delectable murder story.

And they better deliver a doozy. The public will settle for nothing less.

The disturbed individuals don't want it to be murder. they just want to make sure that the investigation is thorough and complete. The kids and their families deserve all the answers possible.

What gear the shifter was in is inconsequential. However the car was not in neutral. It will be some time before the official report is released, but this incident has been thoroughly investigated and declared an accident. There was no foul play involved.

Thoroughly lol. That is great. It can still be shown to you that the trans is in N. It has not moved

I so want it to be murder. And I so want to see a culprit put to death. The more the merrier.

Even though you are mistaken, it doesn't matter what gear the driver put it in. The teenager was alive when he drove into the lake. This matter has been investigated for 43 years, and it is now solved. It was an accident. Case closed.

It's only Christian that someone pay for this.

Please, everyone pray now that someone can be accused, arrested, tried, convicted, and put to death for this. It will bring such wonderful Christian healing to all.

Hey! Let's do another candlelight vigil to find someone to execute for this. The candlelight vigil to find the missing teens worked, even if it did take more than three years after the vigil. So, the sooner the better! How about it? Do it at the old Sonic again? God is great and we must implore God to guide us to victory over the evil permeating this case.

These 3 teens were real. Real as your own brothers, sisters, kids. It doesn't matter how long it has been. WHY did they not move from their seats? Why did they not at least seek the air bubble? IF and it's a big IF they were drinking, that cold water would have sobered them up instantly. Why were they still sitting stoic? Because they could NOT move. They would have scrambled - at least of held each other. No one just sits while the water rises. You don't have to be a detective to know this investigation stinks. It doesn't effect them so no one cares. Those who may have been responsible have already been judged because they're probably dead, but it's not about making someone pay. It's about doing justice to those who died.

Who are the prime suspects that are probably already dead?
