You are an idiot, I am glad this moronic site is not really representative of the population. My favorite quote here was "it has been stated on topix". Great place to gather your facts. The wait is twice as long in Elk City and prices are at least 30% more for their services, but I'm sure you already checked that out before your post. Go to their topix page and they have the same kind if people bitching about their hospital. Start working toward a solution instead of anonomous complaining here and contributing to the problem. How many city council or hospital board meetings have you been to? Ever volunteered for a city committee? Ran for city council? Being a registered voter qualifies you for nothing. Sayre has hundreds of registered voters who won't vote and plenty more who will blindly vote with no facts, or worse, will get thei facts from topix.
To answer your question, you have not already been taxed for this, you have been taxed for half of it. This is for the other half. It is not a bailout, it is not designed to generate a profit, it is a last ditch effort to keep a valuable service for this community. The people you talk bad about here that are working for this, are not the people who will go without if the hospital closes. If you think they are doing this for themselves you are more naive then even your post on topix suggests.
On election day, vote against the tax. You will save $50 next year and you might get to take tha ambulance ride to Elk City. Be careful what you ask for, you might deserve what you get.
WOW! The pot calling the kettle black? You must be one of those who represent us common folk! Your pompous, arrogant attitude screams my daddy gave me everything. Oh and if you are not one of these representatives, you should be , you have the qualities.

To counter your statement about "it has been stated on topix", which somehow gives you the right to call me an idiot. If Topix is nothing to worry about, why are you here fervently pressing the hospital debate. If you think I am a moron and other people do not feel the way I feel, you are wrong. Much of our community is on social security and that $50 dollars could mean medicine or not. Also being a registered voter does make me capable of casting a vote, to either accept the tax or deny it. I do not have to attend meetings to be considered a important part of my community. It almost sounds like you require citizens to attend these meetings or be called ignorant. There are many people who have lived in this community who do not attend those meetings, but somehow pay the taxes. I will also make clear it is those people in the community who vote on mayors, council members, and other officials in the Sayre area. You can hate me all you want, but it is only because people like me scare you. We know Sayre should be responsible for their half, the community has already taken care of their part. If the hospital fails, it is on the shoulders of the officials who can't seem to make it work. Where is the income of the prison? Can't Sayre figure out a budget to use other funds. Why does it have to come out of my pocket?

I do not work at the Sayre hospital. But, I have been a patient there. After the new hospital was built there were multiple times I noted excessive amounts of RNs sitting around the desk chit chatting endlessly while a couple of staff ran their butts off doing the work. I wondered each time I witnessed this just how the hospital could financially afford all of those RNs with so much time on their hands. I am not sure if other departments were overstaffed or not (lab, etc.). What it all boils down to is Sayre bit off more than it could chew financially when it built the new hospital - then it didn't manage the financial aspects of it wisely. It is a shame that they are even having to call upon tax payers yet once again to 'save' it. While I do not agree with the tax increase, or the way they have proposed it, I do think our elderly citizens deserve to have a local hospital for many reasons. One being if you are 80 and your spouse is in the hospital you might can putter a few blocks to see them but getting on I-40 isn't an option, etc. I honestly think if the city really wants the tax payers to vote this in they should be transparent and publish a breakdown of ALL of the hospital financials and not just say "the hospital will close" if the sales tax increase doesn't pass. We deserve to know exactly why the hospital financials are in such bad shape and how bad it REALLY is.

The truth of the matter is that the hospital board and former management have made stupid decision after stupid decision and now the hospital is in financial ruins! What some don't understand is what will happen if the sales tax passes. Currently Sayre hospital is under management by mercy health care services in okc. If the sales tax passes it will be used to pay off the old debt and mercy will effectively acquire the hospital at very little investment and it will become owned by mercy while Sayre citizens are paying for the debt caused by stupid decisions! Then mercy will be allowed to increase prises, bring there own staff in and run Sayre hospital like any other okc hospital with making money there only objective!! If the sales tax is voted against, mercy will decline and Sayre will continue to own and run the hospital. It will continue to be a small town hospital and all we really need is a few new board members. If Sayre citizens will stand up and demand gene Moses, Roberta Oldfield and mike Blevins to stand down and elect a few people with new ideas and determination Sayre memorial hospital can be something we can all be proud of again! Don't let yourself be suckered into believing that they will close it down because that will NEVER happen!!! If mercy takes over it will be the worst thing that could ever happen. Anyone that has been a patient or family of a patient in the last six months should know that the mercy management has already done more damage than good and they are profiting and the hospital, employees and patients are the ones that are paying for it!!!!

Excuses Excuses Excuses give ya a penny and you take a dollar what next 11 cents on the Dollar then 12 cents? I for one don't want Mercy to turn over the running of the hospital over to the Elk City Hospital so that they can Incorporate the moneys with there hospital get their out of debt and Sayre Hospital go down anyway. Don't let Mikes BULLSHIT pull the wool over your eyes. He will say anything to get the tax passed or he would look bad as the chairman of the board and might cost him a job or two. Sell the New Hospital open back up the old hospital and use the monies to remodel it. There are many ways to solve this without raising taxes and to blame Obamacare a true Republican for ya don't get politics into this just solve the problem without taxing us to death. Mike you are pathetic trying to give our hospital away and just turn it into a first Aid station for Great Plains Medical Center a real Sayre Politician for ya.

Sayre wants to merge with Mercy Hospital they do that and it will no longer be a County Hospital. A county hospital can not refuse anyone bc you pay tax. They merge and raise tax they can Refuse you service Even though they are taking Your tax Money. I don't live there. I am just volunteering this information so you can use Your own judgment when you vote. If mercy is going fund them why should you pay more tax when they can turn you away?

Sayre hospital is not a county hospital. It follows the exact same regulations as any other hospital in the United States. No hospital can turn an emergency patient away. That is federal law. Now they can refer a non-emergent patient to their physician or a clinic if it is non-emergent. Please get your facts straight before you post them.

Prior to being built, was it determined that a new hospital would be viable or was it just built for the sake of building?
If such a determination was made, what changed?
If this simple question cannot be answered, the citizens were sold a bill of goods by those who pushed for a new hospital and the pushers should be held accountable.
ANYONE?
The New hospital was built because Treva Gilland gave them a million dollars to build it
