We pay a high enough sales tax as it is with out raising it to 9.8% plus there is no time period on the tax and if they were to decide they didn't need it then it would be the founding fathers to vote to cancel it not the people thus it would never get cancelled. They are threating to close the hospital if they don't get it well the Elk City Hospital is more in debt than Sayre and if they would quit spending so damn much money on the industrial park then they might have a little to put into the Hospital Plus they are bringing the lockdown part of the Old Hospital to the new hospital so that should bring in money to so I say NO turn them down and don't raise our tax's like the Democratic city council wants us to.

At one time the Erick Hospital was as good as what Sayre has now - and it was a one man show! Now I know that's not saying much but.....

You folks stick your heads in the sand on this and they'll be saying that about Sayre in 50 years or so.

Ssyre needs to support its hospital regardless of a few cents on every purchase. People's lives are worth more than petty money!

Yes Erick did have a hospital but it died before I40 even came through and was turned into a nursing home. I believe in supporting the hospital but not with an ENDLESS SALES TAX. They have blown so much money on the Industrial site they could have supported the hospital. I don't want to pay a dime in taxes for every dollar I spend. More typical Democrat tax and spend. Mercy was supposed to be the savior for the hospital now they want to tax us and give it away to Mercy too?
They even want to change the name of the Hospital.
Have you not heard that Mercy wants to turn the running of the hospital over to the Elk City hospital and turn it into a First Aid Station? Ask some of the Former founding fathers and they will tell you this. I might be more in favor if Mercy were out of the picture but I am not voting for a tax that will go to the Elk City Hospital in the long run. This is not the way to go.

The people behind keeping the hospital open need to put ALL the cards on the table and fully inform the public of ALL aspects of the situation. Inform, inform and inform some more.

I'm guessing that before the new hospital was built, it was determined to be a viable operation. What changed to make it not viable? Curious.

They raise tax's on us to help build the new Hospital then now they want to raise them again? We got Elk City's old City manager now with his old Crony friends from Elk he is now trying to get our Hospital turned over to Elk. NO! There are other ways to save the hospital without letting Elk City end up with it and make it just a first aid Station for their Hospital. I say Vote NO!

I believe it's a business and if they can't manage the finances of the business then they go out of business just like any other. Sure I'd like for Sayre to have a hospital but I'm not for business bail outs.

The real JimBob is staying neutral on this issue. The people of Sayre will decide what they want to do.

Only a Sayre moron is too stupid to come up with their own alias, but it is a fact of life. Sayre has gone down so far the idiots have slid to the moron level. LMAO

Vote NO!! First we pay for it, now we pay to keep it running??? I don't think so. If you want a yes vote considered, then there needs to be a time limit on the tax and not just when it's convenient for you to shut it off. If that we're the case we would pay on it forever and I'm NOT ok with that!

If they raise the sales tax... I will do even more of my shopping at Elk City. Raising the sales tax will finally push many people to quit spending what little money they did spend in Sayre to Elk City. The hospital is the citys problem, not the taxpayers. Didn't Sayre already have a tax increase for the hospital? I think maybe the city council needs to take a paycut to cover their goof up.

“founding fathers”? I think the term you are looking for is “Town Fathers” and that is a bit archaic now that our town’s council is made up of 25% women.

I’m pretty sure there is a time limit, it is how ever long it takes to pay off the debt. The payoff date will fluctuate, because sales tax isn’t constant. Some months the city will make more money than others, so it may payoff quicker, may take longer.

Why wouldn’t the council vote to cancel it once the debt is paid? This tax can’t be used for anything else so there is no reason not to turn off the tax after the debt is gone.

They are not threatening, if the tax does not pass, the hospital will close weather they want it to or not. There is simply not enough money generated by the hospital to sustain it. No one on the hospital board or city council will benefit by the hospital closing. It would probably be a lot less headache for them if it were gone, but the people lose by not having a hospital.

How much are they spending on the industrial park? Do you even know? How does it compare to what it spends or is asking for on the hospital?

Say no and turn them down if you want, but which one of your “founding fathers” do you think is “Democratic”? I don’t know if you have met them, but I’m pretty sure our City Council is slanted way “Republicanic.” This is not a tax and spend issue. It is a hospital or no hospital issue.

Elk City already rejected their chance to run the hospital here. Why would Mercy give it to them? Mercy hasn’t done that to any other hospital it has leased or bought because it makes no business sense. That is just people guessing and gossiping and is just not based on any facts.

Would it be better to just have it close? What motive would Mean Gene and Robert have to give away our hospital?

A penny sales tax =$1 for every $100 you spend in Sayre. How much are you spending in Sayre to make it worth it to pay the gas to get to and from Elk City? Do you have any idea where the majority of this town’s sales tax comes from? The majority isn’t from the people in the town, more people here will benefit then will pay. In a town like Sayre where large portions of sales tax come from out of town, it is a great way to raise money.

The city IS the taxpayers. If you live in Sayre, it IS your problem. The much higher cost associated with not having a local hospital, driving to Elk City and paying their higher rates to go to the hospital is just no comparison with a 1¢ tax. Local people just don’t spend that much money here.
skipping Sayre wrote:

How much money do you think those people make to do that job? I’ll give you a hint, each member of the Sayre City Council would have to foregoe their huge paychecks at the current rate for just over 330 years to pay one month of hospital debt.(Some of them are too old for that) You clearly have no idea what you are talking about.

We need to try to keep a hospital here. The tax still might not save it, but we need to try. None of you want to travel to Elk and give them your money to go to the hospital, and you don’t want to give up all of the jobs we will be losing here if this one closes.
