MOODY MOM ----- On a weekend nights in 1970 how many cars were running up and down the drag ??
Wasn't the hang outs at the Sonic , The Old place where pucketts is now , the bowling alley , Around the show and around the football field if there was a game ???
Oh and the park ???
Where did they drag race ???
Where did kids go to party out in the country or go parking ????
And on Monday at school didn't everyone like to talk about what they saw , did , heard or make fun of someone that did something stupid ????
In 1970 wasn't it hard to keep anything quite cause there was always someone that saw it ????
( I am asking you cause you was a teen then and know the answers )
In 1970 the streets were packed in Sayre. On the drag, you were almost bumper to bumper and you honked at everyone you knew - or wanted to know. There were lots of kids from surrounding towns - even Elk City. The drag was: U in front of court house, right at the light going north, around the Sonic - continue north circle what used to be Dairy Mart, start back toward Main, circle Sonic, turn right at the light, U on west Main sometimes right and out through the park, back to town, right at the light and repeat....at least that's the way I remember it. Everyone knew who was on the drag. It was like facebook.... a few went to Elk to drag - but not many. Parking was usually out west of town on a hill, but I'm sure there were lots of places. The girls knew everyone who had been in town that weekend. Lots of kids from Berlin, Carter and Sweetwater came. Hard to believe Sayre was so busy. Was there a dance that night at the Legion Hut?

QUOTE FROM MOODY MOM

"On Friday & Saturday nights it wasn't unusual to see cars bunper to bumper dragging Main.

Hang-outs were all the places you mentioned but there was also Dairy Mart, Main Street(in general), friend's houses, Teen Town, Cry-Baby Bridge, the park, the list goes on and on ...

Drag races, that I was involved in, was mostly out west on 152.(Burned a lot of rubber off of my dad's car out there.) Cemetery Rd. was another favorite. Out by Fuch's place (Butcher Boy) was another favorite because of all the sand. Guys really liked to slide around out there.

Partying & parking were several places. Salt plant, park, off of pioneer in Elk (if you could be quiet enough that the old farmer wouldn't shoot buck-shot at you), the river, Dead Indian Lake, again the list goes on & on...

Something that hasn't been mentioned and I don't think it pertains to this case but there was a group of the rowdy boys that considered themselves gang-bangers. A few of the girls, even some of the popular ones, got caught and we won't say what that gang did to them.

Yes, Monday mornings would be a buzz of gossip about who went with who and what they did. The gang bragged about their antics too. I am just thankful I never got caught in their little bang parties.

I do know this much, Jimmy loved his family and would never leave without calling them or letting them know something. He was rowdy and loved to race his car but he was a good kid. I wonder sometimes if I am not the girl they were talking about in the other Dark Secrets topic because they had asked me to go with them but my dad came after me and he wouldn't let me go.

I wish I could remember more and I hope more people will come forward with their stories of the past and there might be a break-through.

Keep me posted on the Nov. 20th event and let me know if I can help."

November 1st!!!

19 more days and what is planned???

Come on everyone!! Let's not make this fizzle out for the sake of these kids!!!

Don't wait until the last minute and think it will fall into place. This is Sayre America, we need it planned and organized this week to do it right.

Oops, that was a bit harsh but we need it organized. Where do we stand?? Is anybody working on media, place, etc.??

Sharon, we need you to appoint each one of us a task so we can pull this off right. If we all just get on topix and say "we can talk to this one" and "go do that" then time will pass and nothing will be done.

Let me know something, please!!!!

I am here ready to help too. I have made arrangements to be off so I can get to Sayre in time to help more. Let's get organized and make this happen. Sharon email me and let me know what you want me to do. Anyone wanting to help out, please contact Sharon. I am like MoodyMom...let's get this done for the kids....Jimmy, Thomas, and Leah. Their families deserve to know that we do really care. The calendar is inline with 1970...let's take this sign as a means to recognize these kids in the way they so deserve.

They are back with their families unless they ran away again this weekend. There is another thread about them if you check.

Okay . I was waiting to see if someone was going to step up and start giving me problems about the vigil ... Since this does not seem to be what is going to happen ...

I will move forward .... Someone posted that they would like for it to be inside .. I understand that it might be cold , raining or snowing .. And yes this might be uncomforatable ... But we need to be seen .. We are not just holding a vigil for 3 missing kids we are making a statment ..

That statment being that this case was not handled right and people have info. that was never told and it might have got those kids home .. We need to be seen even if we have to be cold .. What did they go through that night ? After 39 years I would say a little cold is worth showing people we do care and remember those kids ...

I have been reading case after case of missing people .. Did you know that 96% of these cases there was someone that knew something vital and never came forward until it was too late ...

We will stand for our towns missing .. Leah , Jimmy and Thomas ...

Yet we will also be standing for the truth and to show people that they need to come forward with info. even if it seems if it has no value ...

We will be standing for , not just our missing , but all the missing .. For all the ones that were found too late for the lack of someone coming forward with vital info.

It may be cold or wet but it is the very least we can do ... To show respect and to show we care ..
