so Mr. "truth is" - you're saying village residents should pay tax to Rockingham just for plowing & gravedigging, correct. so for all these years - 200 or so - you thought is right that BF residents should pay town taxes just for the snowplowing & gravedigging.
Did you think it should be free?

no Rockingham tax dollars go to BF except in the case of fire equipment ( trucks ) except Bellows Falls paid for and purchased on its own with the help of a "homeland Security Grant" the new BFFD ladder,Rockingham did after the fact as well as Bellows Falls kick in extra $$$ I think it was $25,000 for added equipment not covered by the grant, anyways the street lights are presently a deal between both boards that in exchange for use of Bellows Falls Village property located on Darby Hill etc specifically a gravel pit ( to get gravel someday ) the Town in exchange would take over the street lights which cost presently about $40,000 and I think the sidewalks in BF were part of that deal although cant exactly recall. Oh and yes on the double tax bill that BF villagers get on the town side they pay for public works director,
highway foreman, highway crew, town zoning, town listers, town manager, town development director, town fire department and yes that office staff that the selectboard now talks of cutting...oops I forgot they pay for the Rockingham Rec Dept also and then the village lets them have the water for the pool for free also, watched that at the meetings this past summer.

Now BF has been paying for Rockingham Fire Dept for example with monies derived through taxes on the town side of their "DOUBLE TAX BILL" along with paying for town hall staff and snowplowing and the like on the town side of their double tax bill and then again on the BF tax bill for again half of the town hall staff, you see BF villagers pay twice for town hall staff, they share office staff etc.

now I could on and on but maybe we should talk about say maybe about future plans to run water and sewer to say Parker Hill and Saxtons River , and rural Rockingham just think of the user fees that would mean having to bond for a "BIG" project like that...a town wide project...

oh and lets not forget that Brockways Mills road project ( I think thats off the burner for now )that would be sure to spike your taxes, just like that Parker Hill project costs us alot of money.

remember a big increase in that RT.121 project from years ago...wasn't it like $00.10 cents?

oops forgot the town bought that engine Bf has in the BFFD also and the rescue , but then againg payed for with both BF and Rockingham residents paying the bill just like when Saxtons rivers got their new truck and Rockinghams 2 trucks from before, the new one and that one that came from I think Cavendish? remember voting on that a few years ago.

Oh sure and there is more. You are not getting a bad deal, a lot better than the resident who lives on a state highway in Rockingham and gets no town or village services, unless his house is on fire and then it usually burned to the ground before we had volunteer first responders nearby. Pay attenion now indeed! Vote NO MERGER

And that guy that lives on the side of the highway...he doesn't want your police or sewer.
If you are a villager why diminish the power of your vote by letting others into the pool. Vote No Merger. Don't believe what they are telling you.
Everyones taxes will go up otherwise.

All the streets in Bellows Falls are paved and yet we rurals tolerate muddy, sometimes impassable, roads. How long do you think it will be before we demand what you have and then everyones taxes will go up. There will be way more than repairs to existing pavement. Stop bellyaching about some stupid free water. The pool and poolshed in B.F. is getting $380,000 and the rec is getting $0- and pay attention here is complaining. I think, though it is hard to tell.

Rockingham has one completely paved route that crosses our town and links Springfield with Brockways Mills, Pleasant Valley, to state Rt121 to Saxtons River and Cambridgeport, and points beyond Westminster and Grafton. It has been paved for over 50 years. It amazes me that someone would complain about maintenance on the only thing we have that resembles a cross town town highway, when it benefits everyone, in town and out. What kind of a third world vision do you have for us poor people anyway????????

<quoted text>I don't know much about Monty but the dam idea was a dum idea. It would have become a huge liability to the town and the village. From what I have been hearing a majority of villagers think the merger is a dum idea. Like I said earlier snow removal and disposal is an expensive operation, in the village, unlike plowing the snow over into the woods in rural areas. No rural ever
got a dimes worth of benefit out of village taxepayers and you know it! You just want your taxes lowered! The only way to get that is clean house and cut services and lines of credit. Reign in the credit cards. VOTE NO MERGER!
1st of all is your sign-in name "truth is" or "climategate" or both? we all know you're 1 in the same. we also know you're not real bright.
how expensive is snow removal??? for years the village dumped the snow in to the ct river down at the "snow dump" below the grist mill. would that be so hard for village DPW to do?? please. or, in this day in age - to contract out the snow plowing/removal. in the end you would have less employees on your payroll.
the real issue is/and continues to be - is it fair for village residents to pay a town tax? i say no. there is no service we rcv from the town that we couldn't adjust to and do ourselves. it is silly to think that for 200 yrs or so that village residents have been double-taxed. while our neighbors in Rockingham pay a single tax. i'm not saying Rockingham residents should pay a village tax. i'm just saying village residents should no longer have to pay town taxes, i.e - secede.
you also keep throwing out this thing about the BFPD chief and the credit card. you also must remember the $5000.00 bonus the Rockingham select board game to McGilvery (sp?) when he quit on us. i believe Divoll/Barnett said it was a bonus for the great svc he gave the town. hell - he lived in North Walpole. tells you how much he cared about the town. it just goes to show frivilous spending has been done by both boards.

Before you make wild your wild ideas known about contracting snow removal from B.F. you should get a quote. Otherwise you are blowing smoke! It would cost an absolute fortune, if you could even find an outfit who would or could do the job. The lie about double town taxes doesn't wash. You pay the same town tax as I do and I live on a state highway and get no services, so you are screwing me and now you want to screw me more! You would like to know who I am so you could come and throw rocks through my window or slice my tires I bet!

The other day you were saying it was Schump(sp?) who got the $5000, the town manager who worked with Dumfee to beat his speeding ticket and then Dumfee got caught using the towns credit cards at the cassino. At least you could get the story straight. How can we be sure this isn't happening every day? Who is responsible for overseeing crap like this? Macphee and Dibernardo have been hanging around for some time what have they done about it. Nothing. If you want to secede you will have to vote NO MERGER first. Then I say go for it!

not at all. i just want you to admit that you think it is unfair for BF residents to pay town taxes. the fact that i pay as much in town taxes as you do is totally ludicrous. it is the same argument you have. i don't live in Rockingham, why should i have to pay a Rockingham town tax. correct?

Wrong, I do live in Rockingham, I just don't get what you do, but if you vote for merger and it succeeds I am going to demand what you have, and we will get it. The law is on our side.

Is this that fudge about state taxes? Why don't you see if you can get a tax exemption from the legislature, close off the state highway into BF and bring you supplies in by pack mule over Fall Mtn. You would have to make a detour as the bridge is closed!I get nothing from you and you want to cheat me that is why I will vote NO MERGER!

What you don't get is that I get no town or village services now and you want to raise my taxes even more! Stop the lies! I don't care if it was Mcgivern, Schemp, Dibernardododo, Divoll, Munty or Macaphee or whoever it was. At least you agree there has been mismanagement.
You want to blame certain ones and I am telling you the problem is systemic!
