Letter Box

I've read with interest two letters about a proposed Bellows Falls-Rockingham merger that have appeared in recent days in the "Letter Box." Both were for the merger, and both -- surprise! --were written by Bellows Falls village residents. Full Story

LOU since the day I got out of federal prison you have been a pain in Windham's asskissa. the fact that your not smart enough to own a fire extinguisher or some basic help doesn't wake me knowing your excellence in using whoever for your advantage at your convenience. First you build a cabin on someones land and it burns down by a "so called friend" POINT YOU BUILD IN PUTNEY ON SOMEONES LAND. second is you LIVE IN A CABIN ON HER" alice hollary" land and then you leave to Brattleboro to LIVE IN A LAND TRUST HOME FOR A SCAM DEAL OF "KEEPING A EYE OPEN FOR THEM". THEN ALONG COMES LOU WACKERONKER REFUSING TO PAY FEDERAL TAXES FOR THE LAST UMTEEN YEARS BECAUSE IT DOESN'T FIT HIS "I USE YOU" POLICY. You are a bottom of the barrel in discussed. But in your small world you are a "winner" to those you sleeze with. I heard a couple of Taliban are looking for a roommate could you help us out since you resemble a unshaven Muslim terrorist to "OUR" not yours COUNTRY. I am glad to get out before you and your kind start getting in." ALLAH"

As Jan Mitchell-Love should know, Rockingham has not contract to be served by the sheriff. It's entirely dependent on the state police, who plan to stop offering such service in the near future. The contract for state police coverage is payed by all Rockingham residents, including those of us in the Village of Bellows Falls. So I pay for her police, but she doesn't pay for mine. The same occurs with the Rockingham fire department, paid for by Village residents too, even though we also pay for our Village department. Why is Mitchell-Love are of course offended when asked to pay fairly? Her fees at the Rec Center do not go to the Village police, and if the Town Hall had to hire its own security, rather than free ride on the Village police, that would raise her taxes. It's only fair all town residents pay.

The only two solutions Whit, is merger or secession. I was against secession because the impact on non-village townsfolk would be crushing. However, after reading other mean-spirited, sarcastic, and erroneous (or disingenuous) letters like one by this Jan Mitchell-Love, I am in favor of secession IF this merger initiative fails.

I think secession is a great idea. Go for it.

Secession would be great for the little city of Bellows Falls all the tax money would go to BF and the town would get table scraps just like BF gets now.

Talk about a reversal of roles?

People in BF should consider this the BIG S WORD.

Whit...you forgot to mention the two Rockingham Schools and the Rockingham Library (along with the Town Hall and Rec Center) that the village provides free police and fire protection for.(Town Barn, too?) You are right; BF residents do pay towards for the services that rural Rockingham residents receive AND we pay for the services that we provide to all the town properties located in the village. Why would they want to help BF????

I think the Library and Rec Center should secede from Bellows Falls and be annexed by Quebec. The Town Barn should also secede and be renamed Barn Town.

Extend services to the whole town? This reeks of more government spending. Anyone who lives in B.F. and believes shifting the tax burden will make their taxes go down is "drinking the kool-aid. More services to outer communities will cause everyones taxes to go up, not down. The rural residents will require more services. I can see the B.F. police cruiser stuck on the back side of Parker Hill somewhere and sidewalks in Bartonsville! Then there is the corruption like the B.F. police chief who went to the Cassino in Ct. with municipal funds or the time the B.F. police started a fire at Cheever tire, to create a diversion while they robbed the Danny's Discount Store. We don't want your police or your problems!

Are you serious? You are talking about something that happened in the early 80s (maybe 70s I don't remember). As for the police chief that went to the casino, he was interim and now gone.

Extending the service to the whole town will cause the overall police budget to go up..that's a no-brainer. But policing levels won't be the same throughout the whole town, it isn't in any town..even towns where everyone pays for their police department. Right now, every penny that Rural Rockingham and Saxons River residents pay for fire and police protection, I also have to pay even though I live in the village. Its not much but its not nothing. How is it fair that I have to help pay for your fire and police protection, but you don't have to help pay for mine?

I pay just as much state tax as you even though I don't get to claim the State Police as my town police department. I would love to try that to see how it works out, though I don't think the VSP would consent to policing the village.

I guess the best solution is to just go our separate ways. You pay for the stuff you use, I will pay for the stuff I use. You get the tax revenue from stuff in (only) your part of town and (only) we will get the tax revenue from all the stuff in the village.

I have seen Vermont State Police directing traffing, handing out tickets, and making arrests in Bellows Falls hundreds of times in the last 55 years, nobody believes your lies. Get a clue! VSP have jurisdiction in the whole state and provides service to Bellows Falls
with the exception of walking the beat and patrolling side streets. You should pay for that! It is too fair!

You can't argue my points to you go after me? Calling me a liar? No one BELIEVES me? Like I am making this stuff up or something?

Did I make you cry? Did my new-fangled, elitist, celebrity-style, liberal-like tactic,(its called logic) get you all upset?

Gee muffin, I'm sorry.

I never mentioned anything about jurisdiction. Of course VSP has jurisdiction over the whole state. In fact, all certified police officers in this state have "jurisdiction" in the whole state. You don't even know what that word means.

Are you speaking of your 11 million sewer and water debt you are fraudulently trying to saddle the rural residents with or the corruption and bloated management in the town hall. It is your friends and neighbors that State and Local Police protect the town buildings from, not me or my friends and neighbors. That is why your friends and neighbors should pay for your police not us. Rockingham town employees remove snow and even dig graves to bury your kin. Enough with crying about your taxes already. Look to the top, a fish rots from the head down. Streamline our management and pay off your debt, so you are not loosing $500,000 a year in interest, and then you are talking logic. I don't care what your political stipes you like. You should check that at the door if you want to have a logical dialogue. Otherwise, I have to assume you are having an identity crisis. There is no personal
attack intended, but I guess paranoia strikes deep!

Then why did you call me muffin? A word coined by australian comidiennes Kath and Kim, meaning when a woman wears a pair of tight jeans that makes her flab spill out over the waistband, just like the top of a muffin sits over the edge of the paper case. You got a lot of those in Obamaville so I guess you think that's who you are talking to. Maybe it describes you!
