One government....3 fire districts. Yes! Hey Bf, do you notice that our fire district costs alot more than the other 2? Go volunteer! Why not?

I want to know what candidates for trustee are for this, and who isn't.

The proposal calls for ALL village assets to go to the town,(no monetary compensation) & the village maintains debts. It suggests generating revenue by having the BFPD 1) provide traffic coverage in certain parts of town, i.e. Routes 5,103 & 91; ticket revenue would go to the Town.; 2)provide patrol & 1st response coverge to Saxtons River; 3)negotiate a contract with the Rockingham School Board to provide patrol & 1st response coverage to "town owned property in the BF "zone" (new lingo for "village") & to negotiate a contract with the BF Union High School board to provide coverage for high school events, patrol & 1st response services. The revenue from this is touted as extra savings that would be generated beyond the 3.5% savings cited-which is $52 on an appraised value of $150,000. But, village residents pay a town tax...that jumps 3%. Thus, a savings of .5%,(some $7 a year on the same property) for keeping our debts, handing over our decisions to one board & giving away valuable land and buildings. PLEASE, if you are a village resident, get out to Monday night's meeting and vote to end this outrageous proposal.

The BFPD has run $100,000 up in overtime since Mr. Mullen left. I wonder if the Merger Committee has calculated the additional cost of having the BFPD operating throughout the town. There is NO way that the police will operate outside of the village without it escalating the mini-mini savings stated into more operational costs to be assumed by the town, ultimating resulting in a rise in village taxes.

Yes, the proposal calls for 3 zones. But, it states that the direct costs will be "borne" by the residents of each zone. It makes NO reference to the current practice of the townwide purchasing of major items, such as the trucks, that was implemented years ago. Budgets would be prepared by the Selectboard and "by Australian ballot." by the residents of each zone. Now, it is the residents of each municipality who decide if they want anything voted on by Australian Ballot. The merger committee can't rewrite law and give authority to selectmen for Australian ballot. That is a voter's decision. And, history is showing that the voters, other than the school budget in Rockingham, don't want to go down the Australian ballot route. The merger committee held a handful of meetings and the proposal reflects that it was a rushed job.

If you look at it like the village is some entity that is worth protecting and preserving then you can always point out what the village is "losing" in this deal. But thats the point...the vilage government needs to go. The villagers are town residents and they are getting double taxed unnecessarily. If we can get a larger pool of people to share in the costs, and lose that ridiculous dog and pony show of a board, then go for it!

Look at the proposal. There is nil in cost savings unless the BFPD generates revenue by going into Rockingham & Westminster. The "double tax" stays in this proposal. Understand that emotions may come into this about board members, but that is what elections are all about. It's the American way. Vote them in or vote them out. Why throw out the baby with the water? There will still be elected officials making decisions about the BF Village.....only they will be under the name of a Selectboard. That is really the only change, except for handing over valuable property for NOTHING.

There is no "larger pool of people to share in the costs" under this proposal. The village would still keep its PD & FD & the tab. The village still will be obligated for debts it has incurred. It does not call for it to be passed on to a larger pool of people. All properties would go to the Town of Rockingham. And, if they ever deem to sell it, the profits would be spread throughout the Town despite the fact that it was the village who paid for all of it originally. It is the alliance between the village & town that has been causing problems. And, I have yet to find a Rockingham resident who wants to pay higher taxes just to have our BFPD go townwide.

Merger is just another excuse to raise everyone's taxes and fatten the hogs of govt. Don't fall for it!

The non-binding vote will not be for this proposal. Frankly it wouldn't stand a chance. The vote will be whether to form a new committee to follow up what this past merger committee has done by either polishing and finishing this proposal, or coming up with a new one. I am not in love with this proposal and I have already voted anyways with the real estate sign on my lawn.

If this proposal represents the thoughts of the majority of the committee, it is more reason to vote it down. The proposal generates almost no confidence.

Taxes go down 3.5% in Bellows Falls but the town tax goes up 3.5% that the village pays in taxes? Is that Savings Jigs?
By my calculations it is a .05 savings for the village residents $7.00 on their home.

All the trustees need to do is cut the budgets to manageable levels its that simple. So I am voting Falzo, James and Fox

What about the Minards pond property you fail to mention in your shady report Jigs?

I can see why your bank in Michigan almost went belly up with that formula you cooked up with Dutch and his friends.

The old saying that figures don't lie but liars can figure apply here.

I will speak to the Warden at FCI Butner NC and save you some bunk space Homey.

Another thought.....if there is a merger do the Selectmen collect the total
of the money that comes in from TransCanada? Does the BF VIllage continue with the debts and paying for departments & no longer get the assistance of the dam money???????
This is a waste of time. VOTE NO MONDAY NIGHT. Let's put the merger
question to its grave & work on revising the way the village does its business.

Blatant cost shifting at its worst.BF Village needs to become its own "city" and the town needs to drop the manager form of government. Then the town will realize tax savings and the village can too if it so chooses to rid itself of the bloat it spawns.

This is no different then the administrative merger. The Village gives everything away and we continue to pay,for our high priced fire and police.

I sure wish my brother Tom would listen.it has to be all or nothing.Jiggs had this committee stacked spend it all Obuchowski its not my money and I'm the Mayor and know everything Tom.

Lets face it folks the Village is buried in debt and the Town doesn't want to pay for it. I don't always agree with Falzo, but he is right when he says zero out the Police and Fire.

Then vote on merger and let the town vote on what they want. Then I think there could be some potential savings.

I am against the decision to merge the two because i think it will cause more problems. Also if they do merge what are they going to call the two places in question

The committee is fine about leaving BF's name. They apparently just want to give away all its assets.

Its like a messy divorce.. Needs to be something done and no cost effective or easy way to do it. Tough. Very divided town and village doesnt seem to help. Just curious if anywhere has been on this commitee or the last several?
