with all these cutesy-poo "themes" for independence day parades what ever happened to celebrating the end of british colonial rule and our beginning as an independent nation. that seems to have gotten lost in a welter of "politically correct" garbage. i suggest there be some time for re-reading a few currently suvbersive historical documents, such as the constitution itself, the original bill of rights, thomas paine's "common sense" and thomas jefferson's letters among others. it might be an enlightening experience.

I'm in general agreement with you. Be careful how you promote Tom Paine, however; he was a fire-breathing advocate for independence, but also an enemy of a union of the new states.

you may have a point there "elmer", since i own copies of the constitution, declaration of independence, and some of those other old subversive documents i expect others to be familiar with them. too many msny of our present political leaders seem to lack such knowledge. for them i suggest reading kipling's "mcdonough's song" and "the old issue" along with "the gods of the copybook headings" as salutary lessons.
