Police and fire are the main issues due to the huge tax burden alone 1.6 million is not chump change and wallets will get real lean in Rural Rockingham
and Saxtons River but go for it. Consolidate please for God sakes we will rid ourselves of Golec the 18 year man who shares alot of the blame for lack of leadership and high taxes.

I like the fact that BF residents get 2 votes just like the double taxation the poor residents have paid for all their lives.

Bob Thomson at a previous meeting said if we inherit the police dept it will be a much leaner budget. Bob here is a way to trim that budget use the exact forumula that the BFFD does a one man deot 75% of the time and maybe if you are lucky 2 men 8am to 4pm. That fire budget is a mere $500.000 and the police a million. Just maybe BF residents can afford to put butter on their burnt toast now.

Why would anyone bother at all with fixing spending issues. The entire state just voted to hike taxes and begin deficit spending. If BF wants real change, they need to vote out their reps in Montpelier!

Town-wide policing should be first on the agenda. There's no reason those within the present village should pay the entire cost of policing the village's downtown. And crime doesn't stop at the village line. The broader town needs more policing. The only special district should be for a higher level of fire protection within the present village.

However, cost savings aren't the only reason. As we've seen over the past year, having two boards results in politicians working at cross purposes on many issues which affect us all. This is inefficient in ways that cost us more than dollars. But it surely costs us dollars, even if we can't do exact accounting the quantify how many.

Forget it Whit, logic doesn't work with these people. People will continue to do business as usual and they'll vote to keep both boards. At the Village meeting someone will make a motion and they'll put back police and fire after the Trustees have cut a little from the budget. And onandonandonanon. Even though the Village has a different makeup on their board, things will never progress. The more things change, the more they'll stay the same. Anybody out there who would like to place a bet on this?

This special tax district idea for the village doesn't cut it. There needs to be a TOWN police department and the TOWN tax payers need to flip the bill.

The police department post-consolidation will not stop at the borders of some tax district when it comes to investigating crime or pursuing suspects.

Making village residents pay special fees for fire and police leaves us no better off than now with our double-taxation. Come on villagers, we have the votes. Lets make this consolidation happen for real and prevent this idea of a backdoor double-taxation of the villagers afterward from happening.

I should be, but didn't work in the flatlands town of 60,000 I used to live in. Windham & Winsor counties have a similar population.

If people have the political power, they will get the services they are paying for and people who don't won't have a firehouse near them or see a police car besides when somebody calls one and it will be miles away and some peoples roads will be plowed and taken care of maybe someday.
