it is because vermont and the transplants and vacationers are living in fantasy land thinking tourism will support the state by itself,so they have driven any industry out or made it impossible for businesses to thrive here

I think the waste water dept is in pretty good shape financially . Don't forget this is paid for with user money not tax payers money.

Rob does an excellent job down there. I thought the whole idea of this up grade was to take waste and help offset some of the cost. This is supposed to be revenue.

No one has dug them selves anything ,it is clearly smart business.Yes we are over staffed in the Village and Town.

Why is it the state of Vermont and every other state and community is cutting positions. But BF can not. When they try it is always a personal agenda.

We all need to wake up and live within our means.Get out and vote. The Trustees have made cuts to the Fire and Police, please support them.

Don't cave in to the scare tactics from the unions. The Village will not burn down, it is already gone. The Police just need to get out and do their jobs.

the upgrade is like putting new windows or insulation in your house, it will save the wastewater plant money and possibly create more revenue thru septage, but putting in the system that was originally supposed to go in to get rid of the grit and junk before it goes through every pump and valve in the plant is a very smart idea and should be done,if these upgrade arnt done then i am sure that the tax payers will be paying for big breakdowns and possibly fines in the future, like the breakdowns of the drives in the primary tanks, rob and the crew there do great work and are very multi talented and do many things some plants don't do but farm out to expensive contractors, bf is lucky to have these men working there, if i was bf i would find a way to go with the original plan and install all the equipment that was originally supposed to be put in, it will save you money in repairs, electricity and man hours and should bring in some revenue to offset some of the costs.
another reason i think saxtons river piping there sewer to bf would be good is that it would create more methane that could be used to make heat and possibly electricity if done right and would help pay more bills and possibly bring in more user fees from places along the way between saxtons river and bellows falls, but what do i know, seams the ones behind the desks know more then the guys doing the work and the ones who understand the whole process

ST. JOHNSBURY - About 40 bankers, businessmen, commercial property owners, career municipal employees, failed selectmen candidates, the development review board and school directors turned out Wednesday to lam-bast selectmen during a special meeting.

The event, scheduled to set a date for revote of the failed general fund, assumed the tone of a college protest at times with terms such as "tyranny" and "dictatorship" leveled at selectmen Rod Lamotte, Jim Rust and Bernie Timson. Board members did not schedule a revote

Spuds get off your high horse , people in the village pay town taxes also. Why should we pay to have Brockways Mill road paved? It is not in the Village. I will agree that our services are out of line. Every time a board tries to cut them they are called names, sit there and go along and they love them. John C I don't think they were breaking the contract just bringing it in line with the expenses.I watched the meeting last night and Les White stated there was over a 40% increase for medical insurance. Why is the board at fault for watching over this. I know just go along and make our neighbors happy.I find it interesting Louise couldn't get anyone else to look at running the plant.Maybe they just are getting a sweetheart deal.
Dennis I thank you for your input also. Didn't you used to work at the BF sewer? Why don't you bid $42,000.00 and run it if it is such a great deal. I personally think this board has tried their best. I haven't seen any personal agendas, they have watched the budget pretty closely. This is what they are elected to do.
I believe the Brockways Mills project is about the getting sand for your streets and sidewalks and roads, during ice storms, and yes our roads get sanded too. I think the estimated costs of the project are way too high, but sand and gravel is getting more and more scarce and the project will probably pay off in the long run. That route that runs from Sprinfield to Saxtons is the only completely paved rt. running across the town, while almost every inch of BF is paved. We share in the cost of your FD as the whole town pays for capital expenses and your records are in the town hall too. Over the years the whole town has appropriated more money for the town hall and theater than one can imagine. It is hard to see where it went, meanwhile the urinal drain in the head at theater is still leaking. I didn't siit on my hands about about budget cuts, but after all the cuts were voted back in I walked out. I am not on a high horse either. I am tired of hearing how I get something for nothing and my taxes keep going up! I must admit I don't know why the village of SR can't hire their own operator or contract laborer. As for the 40% increase in med ins, what about zero's health care bill, I thought that was supposed to lower every ones insurance and "make health care more affordable". BS!

Hey Joe the Trustees just set a proposed budget. The taxpayers vote it in so we can't blame the Trustees, blame the voters.

There has been plenty of studies done for both the Village and Town and no one follows the suggestions. Both boards are to blame, taxpayers are to blame also they vote it right back in.

We need to realize we can only afford so much no different then our household budgets.

I am just as much to blame because I sit at home and watch the meetings on TV. We need to start filling these meetings. Also be responsible and get out and vote.

Ultimately it is the responsibility of Trustees or Selectman to expend funds. Voters have no more authority to add in as they have to line item veto. The governing board makes the decisions about staffing levels. They do not have to staff it even if the town or village voters appropriate funds. The overstaffing issues are strictly in the purview of the boards and one need not look further.

The dam is going to have to pay more in taxes with the value going back up to 128 million so that will be about 5 million in taxes to the town, the village if lucky will get Three hundred thousand If the selectboard decides it wants to cough it up.

What if the village left the town of Rockingham then the dam money would go to the village, just something to think about.
I will confess I would rather live in the country then put up with all the crime and noise of this village in many respects Spuds the road you live on is a nice country setting and I donít think for 1 minute you want sidewalks or paved roads out there do you?

The selectboard with McFlea and his Cronies did the greatest give away with the hotel project that was bought with tax payer money all totaled over 300k and gave it to the 3 Shysters for $11.400. not to mention all the deeded parking spaces and Power CO property. The Shysters split up and 1 guy got bought out for his share 350k HOW NICE.

Now before you say development Sovernet got over 12 Million for the sale yet have they put any of their money in that project ?NOOOOOOOOOO they grub for grant money that Dutch finds for them and yea the put windows in they sell themselves.

The 3 Shysters want us folks to contribute, show community support and buy in with more funds but screwed the locals over a plumbing job by hiring Keating out of Keen NH trying to get the bids down, so much for BUY LOCAL Roger Riccio was quoted as saying in the paper over Sam's closing huh? The folks that will run the restaurant are very nice and hard working with good food, I would suggest they stay in their present location.

The theater renovations over 3.5 million and when a real stage company actually wanted to do a Broadway production hell NOOOOOOOO we sent them packing but Vermont festivals is okay and now we will spend more money for the new projector and deplete the savings the town has in that fund to and lets not forget that 10k raise Kali got from the selectboard right after cutting the 3 positions. " McFlea we made painful choices and cuts"

The only saving grace about the Bellows Falls Fire dept is the callmen not the paid professionals who take the money and run to their other jobs leaving the callmen to pull the weight to SHOW UP FOR REAL EMERGENCIES. SPEAKING OF WEIGHT CHIEF GOT A 5% RAISE AND THE UNION BOYS GOT 9% OVER THE NEXT 3 YEARS.

The police need to get out of the station house and show some results for 1.1 million dollars and yes by all means get out and vote no to the Queen Riccio.

Thanks for reminding me of some reasons why I think the town is better off without the village. Keep the dam money, the town gets rid of the Manager form of government and some of its attendant staff overhead, along with the other staff bloat. And because school taxes are the greatest part of the overall burden the dam still supports the Rock. schools. The village gets its foolishness in the local political arena and the rural area gets peace and finally quiet.

Joe can you imagine what these blogs would say if the boards went against the voters wishes. They just decided to spend the money where they wanted.

You would sure have something to write about. I can see it now board has personal agenda, board anti Police and anti Fire.

Why don't you run and step up to the plate and give it a try.Sounds real easy , go for it.You will get my vote.

I can imagine and I suspect it would be very similiar to the tone already on here. But, there is another option. They DO NOT HAVE TO SPEND THE MONEY!!!!

No thanks. Years ago when I lived elsewhere I did my service. Been elected 5 times and served on numerous appointed commissions and advisory boards. I'm older now and need to take care of my business so I can retire when I want to and live how I want to. Time for the young folks in their 30's and 40's to step up.
But thanks anyway.
