Dr. Beaty. actually got up early enough this morning to be at some of the Bonham Schools when students arrived with a cup of coffee in his hand. Glad to see he is getting to school before 10:00 every morning. He may be actually earning his $136,500. Also assistant principal at Evans is a looker. Great hire.

Devin, you have hit the nail on the head ------- in decribing a lot of Fannin County residents. I tried - I failed; but then again, I think most don't even try. You see, if you would have 'really tried', you would have found many in the state of Texas that are worse off than Bonham. I'm not saying Bonham doesn't have tremendous room to improve but we have someone that is willing to make hard decisions to put us on that path. The days of 'we've never done it that way' are long gone. It's time to go in a different direction - a better direction and Dr. Beaty is steering BISD there.
I just heard someone say a couple of days ago (about a well loved teacher), "she was my mom's teacher and my teacher and now she's gone. This just isn't right". This person was in their mid 20's which puts their parent in their 50's. Just how old was this teacher? Teaching has evolved tremendously over the last 5 years alone. Maybe it was time for her to retire. Maybe she didn't want to keep evolving with all of the new technology. I imagine she met the needed qualifications to retire. She may even make more in her retirement than being active AND if she still wants to be involved, there are many opportunities to volunteer within the school.
Right now, it is said that Collin County is the reason 121 has not gone to 4 lanes. They have been blocking the project so progress will not make it easy for residents to move towards Fannin Co (tax $ would leave Collin and move to Fannin). Fannin Co seems to be no different. When we do have progress arrive, we seem to do everything in our own power to block it from happening as well.

To all of the posters who think Bonham and Fannin County is such a horrible place, with such horrible people, why do you stay here if this place makes you so unhappy and disgusted?

On a side note, I thought Mikey took him with him on vacation? Guess he found his way back after being dumped. Oh well, we have that fabulous dog pound. < sarcasm > ?

Taco Hells, cici's, McDonalds, and other garbage food places, along with relocating Sonic, Braums, Walmart, Exxon stations, etc and leaving abandoned buildings is not "progress". It is called developers and schemers ripping off a community and downtown decay. It is called creating monopolies and forcing mom and pop businesses out of business.

Development and expansion is not progress, it is regression, and a major part of what caused the economic collapse of recent years.

When anyone hears someone talking about "progress", you know they're a damn greedy rich wannabe elitist capitalist wanting to screw over the middle class people, or a brain-dead dirty damn communist wanting to steal and tax away the middle classes income. Hell with both of them.

Stopping roads at the county line and returning the county to the 1800s would be best. Ride a horse, or walk. Heck, returning the World to the 1800s would be excellent. Humans have overcomplicated and overdeveloped things. Simplify.

Don't know about the Beaty thing but the assistant principal (Susan Baker) at Evans seems cool. From what the kids have said and others, she seems to know what to do to be an effective "disciplinarian" but does not get goofy about silly stuff. She doesn't seem snooty or abrasive and she actually smiles. I agree with the great hire thing.
