I grew up in Turkey Creek which is SE of Savannh. There are many small communities around Savannah. Savannah itself has a pretty good cultural scene with art shows, a great upscale restaurant/coffeehouse. The Memphis symphony plays on the lawn of a local mansion each fall. There is a historical home tour and victorian christmas each december. Pickwick lake is really close by. I would buy in a smaller communitee away from the river. The homeprices are lower there. Only problem is that it is not a very racially diversivied area. Better than when I grew up.

Southern hospitality extends to only those born here. Run....fast....I am! Trust me Frank-they don't hide the fact that they don't like "Northerners" here-& yes, they consider Floridians Northerners.

----- No more expensive than any other metro sized city plenty to do,a great place if you are young, single.and professional! Cool springs is about 15 mins. south of nashville and brentwood is about 10 min north of cool springs, these are growing places with no slow down in future growth,Hendersonville is north of nashville another place of growth,The most expensive apartment in nashville is the mercury apartments about 3000.00 a month. Plenty of resturants, bars, vanderbilt college. The cons lots of mexicans, kurdish people, Traffic, briley parkway construction.I really enjoyed living there The most expensive neighborhood is belle meade,And home of the tn. TITANS! I would move back the next day if I was not married,Give nashville a chance I don't think you will be dissapointed, also go to postaroo.com It is nashville's online message board.

I moved to a little town called cross plains. when i say little i mean if you blink you miss it. But been here a year and love it the town people are so nice and the pharmacy still serves hamburgers and milk shakes. its only about 15 min from nashville and 15 from ky. Never thought that there would ever be a better place to raise kids. but this is a very nice and respectable place. like any where now a days its going to be hard to find a job but nashville would have a better chance.

I am considering retiring somewhere in Eastern TN.
A small town would be great. Any ideals?

Savannah is in Southwest TN -- opposite end of the state. I would not recommend going any farther west than, say, Nashville. My fave place in TN is around the Cumberland Plateau.

What are your reasons for not going any further than Nashville?

IMO, your better employment opportunities are better, The climate is better, your scenery is better - nothing like mountain views, breathing that wonderful mountain air. I just prefer areas east of Nashville. Memphis has good opportunities, but with the crime there... I just don't think it'd be worth it. Not to mention the red clay dirt here... It stains everything it touches and I just hate it. My grandfather told me when I first came to Savannah that if I ever got Hardin County mud on my feet, I would never leave here. Apparently, he was right. I've been here 20 years and it doesn't look like I'm going to get away any time soon. LOL. I wish you the best wherever you decide to settle. :-)

I researched information about North Carolina, however I discovered that-that state has too many hurricanes. I'm from the Phillyburbs, and the only thing this area has is a severe thunderstorm from time-to-time. Never a "tropical storm."

I'm interested in moving to Knoxville, TN.

Hi, I'm born and raised in Cleveland Ohio. I'm looking to move to Knoxville. I'm looking for an ideal place to raise a family. Are there any areas in the area that one would (would not) suggest living? Thanks for your help.

My husband and I lived in the nashville area for a while. The surrounding towns are very nice. Smyrna, Lavergne, and Murfreesboro. I found a very nice home at www.rentclicks.com .
Good Luck
