New Drug Alert: Bath Salts, Plant Food
• Monday, February 14, 2011
If you haven’t yet heard about a new line of “designer” drugs that are becoming more and more commonplace in society, rest assured, you will. Just as meth and meth labs and roxy, oxy, and hydro pills - the codones - were unfamiliar terms only a few years ago, several new synthetic stimulants gaining popularity among illegal drug users have begun to hit the street and appear to be gaining momentum as the latest drug of choice.

The stimulants are fairly new to East Tennessee, according to illegal drug experts. They contain at least two toxic ingredients called mephedrone and 3,4-methylenedioenpnrovalerone , names no one can remember so the marketing has been reduced to simple and easily remembered names.

Very simple names.

Like “bath salts” and “plant food.”

Bath salts one can not only wash in but consume, it seems. And food originally intended for your plants only, though now users are ingesting the substance themselves.

Despite the packaging saying,“Not for Human Consumption.”

But it being consumed by humans. Apparently not very bright humans, but humans. Like methamphetamine, a truly deadly substance, bath salts and plant food can sicken and kill humans even though numerous individuals ignore the dangers and smoke, snort, inject, and swallow this new stimulant that comes packaged innocuously as household items.

Many of the states across the country have banned the outright sale of these substances, while other states are in legislation to ban the production outright. However, right now, today, these bath salts and plant food tablets are legal and are being sold in convenience and novelty stores.

The East Tennessee Poison Control Center has attributed at least five overdoses to these synthetic drugs. However, many overdoses have been classified as “severe psychosis” requiring hospitalization.

Use of these drugs has been found to lead to insomnia, paranoia, hallucinations, delusions, anxiety, suicidal thoughts and actions, depression, rapid heartbeat, headaches, and muscle and stomach pain.

Parents, guardians, teachers, employers, and the general public are only now becoming aware of the deadly nature of ingesting bath salts and plant food. The highly poisonous nature of these two substances has been muted in the current marketing ploy by applying “designer” names to make the substances more attractive.

The names include Molly’s Plant Food, Ivory Wave, Purple Wave, Rave On Bath Salts, Cloud 9, Ocean, White Lightning, Hurricane Charlie, Scarface, Red Dove, White Dove, and Bliss.

Monroe County Alcohol and Drug Task Force Director and Project Director for the Monroe County Health Council Patty Williford has begun a campaign to alert the residents of the county, especially parents, of these new drugs.

“These stimulants are here in East Tennessee and have been linked to youth overdosing or having severe psychosis quiring hospitalization,” Williford said.“Parents, speak to your children about the dangers of ingesting substances. Even though they are being sold in convenience stores, they are not safe. As a community coalition, we are against the sale of any of these items.”

Another thing that's dangerous is that legal weed they sell as "incense". Some of that stuff is decent but I had some that was supposedly "stronger" and I thought I wasn't going to live through it!!! I don't know WTF they put in that stuff but it's not natural!!! I'll stick to the natural stuff that God made!!!

Everyone needs to stay away from that gas station weed. It's dangerous! Google it!!

I wouldn't wish that on anyone. I took the plant food once and took too much. I thought I was dying. I used the rest on my plants for real. It actually worked wonders.

Also, Rick is a moron, no matter what he says.
