They don't really make that much money, it just seems like it because there are not any other jobs around here that pay a decent wage. Savannah is a nice place to live, but if you want to make a comfortable living you pretty much have to travel

So when they get a divorce...their wives can get half of their retirement...401k...and possibly alimony!!! Keep on bragging!!!

The test is pretty easy, the hard part is the interview with about 4 sh*theads that will only pass you if you fit the "mold" of what they think you should be.

they make the $$$ because they are done for. All those toxins and thing they are round and breath every day at work will cause them to die young. Why do you think they have you wash your car before you leave>

70 grand ain't bad. For around here. never tried their test, but yeah i guess it's possible i would have failed it. I'm smart enough to travel though, and the people at my mill make more than you make in their first year. Save your bragging for people that don't know any better

A good friend of mine that works there says the hourly wage is not really high but he gets a ton of hours so yeah he makes a lot. It's not the greatest job in the world but not the worst. I have plenty of friends that travel construction and safety stuff and they make more than mill workers but are gone 6-9 months a year.

I work at the mill and make very good money for around here (95,000+), but what is it worth when u don't get to see ur family!! Money or not, shift work is not worth it!! Sad thing is If u want to stay in this town it's about the only option u have!!

I work for the mill. I have been divorced twice in nearly 30 years of spending my life enhaling poison for a paper. If i had my life to live over i would never applied here. I dont never have time to spend my money. My wife does. The others had better things to do or men to do because i was never there. If i spent the time for myself as i spent for the Mill i would be a multi millionaire & still married just once. Now, i would rather go take a pill!

Factory workers

I would not say you are smart just because you can pass a basic factory test to get hired to work on a paper machine. They do not really make that much but people in this area have build up the idea that it is the place to work. The fact is that with a little education or drive you can make as much without having to work at the paper mill. I talk to a lot of people from out of town and they get a kick out of it when I tell them how excited some people are about working at the local factory that they can smell at their lake house. So I would not brag about working there, it just makes you look like a poor redneck to people that do not have to work there.
