Savannah , TN - A Savannah woman was found dead in her home last night, allegedly murdered in what Savannah Police Chief Donald Derr says may have been a robbery turned deadly.
Otylier Callens, 80, of 80 Ryan Street was found by family members in the living room of her home. According to Derr, family members had tried to contact Callens earlier in the evening to no avail. Callens allegedly was found with a plastic bag around her head. The unofficial cause of death right now has been determined as strangulation/asphyxiation.
Family members contacted the Savannah Police Department at around 9:56 PM last evening, and in turn, police investigators called the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation's field unit, along with their mobile forensic van, who assisted in processing the crime scene.
Derr stated this morning that the events that unfolded appeared contained to the living room area of the Ryan Street residence, with the contents of Callens' purse strewn about the floor.
Savannah Police are still persuing leads and as of this writing do not have a subject in custody.

This is horrible! I cannot believe someone would murder a sweet lady such as Ms. Callens. I am sure someone needed a "fix"!Savannah just aint the same old "small town" anymore. Lock your doors and watch out for each other. Will be keeping this family in our prayers.

I was not saying anything bad about our police, Just that you get away with murder in Hardin co. Even when you killed more than one person!

I think they should hang them on the courthouse lawn and leave them there for everyone to drive by and see, might make people who do things like this think. It's not much punishment when you can set in the jail in the A/C and watch cable tv and have someone bring your durgs to you!

She was such a sweet woman. Wouldn't hurt a fly. She will be missed dearly. Her boyfriend Billy Berry thought the world of her and would have done anything for her. 2 of the greatest people I know. What a shame.
