Dredging to begin next month on a government contract ship yard . Been told they will do all sorts of repair on TVA boats and military craft as well. Also heard they will start dredging the White Oak bottoms to begin construction of a naval submarine repair facility. Welding , Painting and all sorts of weapons test will be conducted here in the county. Construction will employee 2500 skilled craftsmen and 5000 unskilled. When the projects complete it should retain about 150 good paying jobs. To apply you must go to city hall to register and take your drivers license photo I.D. Due to the sensitive nature of these jobs the city commission will decide who's qualified and who's not. Should help if you know somebody.

So the city commission will decide who's qualified to work for an Army Corp engineer job?

How odd.

Yes , it has been confirmed that J&J got all the paint related work. Also heard today that their bringing in Jocke Custeau's old Submursible the
" Treste' " to dive a recently discovered underwater cave that is under the dam. One of the gentlemen over at J&J discovered while doing some underwater painting for TVA a few years back. The cave could be the source for all the strange fish that have surfaced in the tail waters in recent years. No wonder the Navy's so interested in this area.
