Looked like this had just happened as I came upon the scene about 6:45 AM. I saw someone lying in the road by a wrecked car. There were people on the scene but no emergency vehicles had arrived yet. Saw someone squatting beside victim & placing a coat over them.
Has there been any word on the persons condition? Were there other vehicles involved? Looked like an 18 wheeler involved & a light colored car. Not sure if any others at the scene were in the wreck though.

A red light would is the worst thing for that section of the highway. The speed limit needs to be lowered to 35mph from Walmart passed the intersection of airport rd and hwy 64 with a flashing caution light. The lower speed will allow for more reaction time in the event someone pulls out in front of you.

im not concerned with what other towns would have. There have been a lot of wrecks at that intersection and 35 mph with caution light would be successful in stopping that. After the intersection increase speed back to 55 mph.

nothing will keep people from wrecking there. wanna know why? because there are too many dumbasses driving in savannah. sorry but its true. i dont understand why people keep suggesting that we add more lights, change the speed limits, etc. theres no point. people in this area cant drive worth a damn. adding more transportation factors will confuse them even more.

Your comment is fueled by anger and ignorance. That is a dangerous intersection and the statistics on crashes alone from before the road construction and after are proof enough. Im not saying you're wrong about savannah drivers but that has little to do with the crashes at that intersection.

im not angry or ignorant. i feel very sorry for those in wrecks and their families. however, their wrecks are their own fault. you are probably one that hardly ever leaves savannah, and when you do, its to go to florence or jackson. the 64/airport intersection isnt that bad to deal with. if you think it is, you obviously havent traveled much abroad. all it boils down to is paying attention, which folks in this area tend not to do. i know im right about the drivers, and yes it has everything to do with it.

if it has nothing to do with the intersection then why are there more wrecks there than anywhere else in the county. before you ask how do I know there are more there than anywhere else, I work in a profession where I would know that tid but of information.

The wreck involving the 18 wheeler was not his fault. He had just pulled out in the road and was trying to build his speed up when he was rear ended. What is wrong with people! If there's a big truck in the road why not go around or SLOW DOWN!! Do not just drive into it. It's not the intersection! People do not stop and take their time to look and see what is coming. But I will say at night it is really dark at the intersection.. Some lights there would help to see. JUST LOOK at what is going on around you. The speed does not need to be 35 m.p.h.

You say SLOW DOWN but there is no need to change the speed limit to 35.
