School Uniforms Not Making the Grade

Savannah-Chatham Public Schools will require some students to wear school uniforms starting next school year.

I think it's a great idea for the schools to inforce uniforms for all grades. Students will have the opportunity to focus on school work oppose to what the next student is wearing. It will make all students feel equal. Those less unfortunate students will not stand out if uniforms are inforced, leaving less problems of teasing and low self esteem.

What ever you do children will always compare to each other. I don't think the uniform include shoes, does it? Right there you can start making fun of other kids who have only a $15 pair when you wear the latest n*** at $30.
Why do you want to teach our children that we are not different and we are all the same. We all are different and we need to show it. What we need to teach them tough, is that it is ok to be different, and we need to respect each other.

There Should Be Uniforms. It Would Lower Or Slow Down Bullying About How People Dress And Letting That Determine Wether A Child Is Cool Or Not. And Then It Wouldnt Lower Self Esteem. It Would Prevent Conflict. And Kids Slef Esteem Wouldnt Be Such A Strong Issue. Uniforms Should Be Inforced.

School uniforms are not a good idea because just everyone looks the same, doens't mean people still won't be made fun of. Also, I don't think students are worried about what other people are wearing. It's not distracting during classes.

I think uniforms should be a MUST!!!! It should include shoes & socks. Also, I don't think jewelery should be worn. They are not in school to look good (even though they have some attractive uniforms out here) they are in school to learn. No we are not all alike but what you wear will be one less distraction. I think hair should be cut neatly for boys & CLEAN. I think no longer than shoulder length hair for girls & clean is sufficient. No make up is necessary. And all should wear the same clothing from the top of their heads to their toes. I know they will disagree but what they look like is NOT why they are in school and the sooner they figure out the world does not revolve around them, the better off they will be. Its time we teach them we are the adults and take spock's beliefs out of the equation, teach good morals, ethics and higher standards our children some day will be able to run our country.

I Agree! I want school uniforms as a student! Maybe not the girl's hair can't go longer than sholders, but all the stuff about everybody be the same from head to toe, i agree 100%!:)

I hate the idea of school uniforms. It take away kids' creativity and personal expression in what they wear. You can tell a lot about a person by what they wear. If everyone looks the same, they will all be thought of the same way. "Everyone should be treated equal" is a common expression, but putting school uniforms on students will make them feel less equal and will probably make them act out more. Personally, I would hate to have to wear a school uniform and be judged the same way as everyone else. I like being an individual, not just one of the many who are the same.

No It's a horrible stain on the students and the parents not to mention the purse !Especially when the stores do not carry the items at when they do have they are not affordable. Just try having more than one or two children to dress!Now my my children hate them and find it hard to go tgo school due to the uniform .Not every one comes in the same size or design body type and they are terribly uncomfortable.And definitely boring! It takes away from creativity and personal expression.Sure Have some rules on dress and grooming but give all the right to be themselves and spend within their on budgets.And If the children have to lets have the employees follow the same code!see how fast they get rid of those Gosh aweful uniforms!Or pay for all uniforms and alterations and their cleaning.The closest
I can see to uniform is a school tee shirt for Fridays for spirit day to help show support for our teams!Try doing this for 4-8 or even larger families before you get such bright ideas.And are your children wearing them? And try having them in the cold with them in dresses! Did anyone ask our youth what they wanted or what made them comfortable? No!Now lets' get it right include those directly affected by the rules like the children, parents , staff and those that are gonna keep a fair stock for all in all sort of sizes and design as well as sizes and materials. Some have cloth allergies!And by the way not everyone looks good in the same color and a basic black bottom is more acceptable. But if you want to know leggings and jeans are best for children and comfy! We HATE the UNIFORMS!They totally SUCK!ANGELA CATER

Teachers stand back and let other bully you about the ugly uniforms we have to wear and that takes away from enjoying learning or going to school and the things my mom barely can afford others steal and we can't get more and then the staff is trying to hold that against you when you can't just go get more because of money , or the fact the rotten stores locally will not carry enough to be convient in your size and colors if they do at all!Thanks .Rebekah and I'm 9! Uniforms have been used in public schools in south florida for years...they are great...the parents spend less for the uniforms than for the expensive clothes that kids pick out to buy for school, they last longer ...there is no guessing what the kid is going to wear to school everyday, and the biggest point....there is a uniformity in the appearance of the school kids...no obscene t shirts, no belly buttons, no droopy pants, no mini skirts, no underwear as outerwear, no competition for name brand stuff....the kids can still personalize their style with assessories...or not...PLUS...the schools can easily see...who is and is not supposed to be on campus, by what they are wearing...

The children should not wear uniforms becuase they are really uncomfortable and my daughter can't focus with her uniform. If they wore regular clothes, they would express themselves and concentrate more on their work. Sometimes, my child gets dress down days and she concentrates more on her work I'm aware about what she is wearing. It's just not right for chilkdren to be force to wear uniforms! Thank you.

My daughter does to a catholic school and she is not comfortable! How do you think she feels?! It's horrible for her! She's in the 6th grade and she went to this school since kindergatren and never had a chance to express herself! Please! Take away the uniforms! I could actually puke from what she is wearing! 15 years old In high school and have never had to wear one. Clearly I think the age long question on uniforms is solely based on opinion. Actually i was only searching the internet to find FACTS out about school uniforms. I'm writing for uniforms, when i run into trouble because there has not been any official studies done that prove uniforms keep students focused, or that uniforms increase grades, or that they are surly beneficial. This came to a shock to me, those " facts" that i had herd all my life, about uniforms being beneficial to schools, was only opinion. Sure i wouldn't want to wear one for a few reasons, but there can be benefits from them,( my opinion)i wouldn't want to be detracted, but who's to judge whats detracting? it can go into a long series of events, the whole uniform debate could be non-ending.

we are deciding weather or weather not to wear school uniforms and i think it is sooo stupid because i mean you go to school to get a career to learn not to waer uniforms you should be able to wear whatever you want to wear in school i don't see a really good point to have to wear school uniforms yeah kides don't make fun of you anymore because oyur all wearing the same things but i mean thats not a really good reason to have to wear school uniforms people say it will help with gang members but i don't beleive that i mean people are just going to go on with the same things they were doing and i really don't see a point in it and plus i want to wear my abercrombie, hollister, and american eagle things i don't want to wear the same looking alfit everyday!!! that is so boring and so plain and sometime the uniforms are really ugly!!!!

Yeah,I think the whole uniform thing is all opinion. Theres No true facts on it. KACI- You must be around 12-16, thats how just about every one in my school feels. Do some research online and find out what rites its violating, get a petition signed, stand up for your beliefs, maybe if the students all show they don't want uniforms, it would happen.Its all opinion, in the long run, its up to the school board, and their Opinions will make the final decision.
