The Public Kitchen & Bar now open at Liberty and Bull

Full story: SavannahNow

The location at the southwest corner of Liberty and Bull streets is well south of the most intense areas for tourist activity, but the new spot is nevertheless certain to be popular with visitors.

I have been to Columbus many times but find our Riverfront to be more fun. The Columbus Riverwalk is geared more for physical activities, even now with your new whitewater river mods.
Savannah is a place where people come to see the history and have fun.
Columbus has an city that over managed, one block section of entertainment venues.
I like Columbus and think it is smart that you are becoming a more physical activity city and leave the entertainment to Atlanta and us in Savannah.
Just my thoughts on an early Sunday morning.

True, Columbus is a more "hardscrabble" city than the arsy (at least my impression of the Savannah style as opposed to the way we do things here) pretentions of cities like Atlanta and Savannah.

Here in Columbus, we keep it real, street level, and we don't neglect the physical aspects of life, art and commerce and how they can work together.

In other words, there's on competition, there's now reason for your city to envy our success... there is plenty of room for all and room for all approaches.

The opinions are all subjective, to put it sinply.

Yes, and when I was staying there briefly in 1997 I found their encouragement of the arts in all forms in the streets leading to the Riverfront to be notable and interesting.

I haven't seen the "realness" you speak of and my comment about the physical went right over your head.
The physical means you have a well known biking, jogging, etc thing going on in Columbus, now with the addition of the whitewater river mods, it is another notch in this type of activities.
No one goes to Columbus for the entertainment or to have fun but it is a destination for these other things and can become even more so.

I'm very fond of Savannah myself, but there's not a competition here, all the arts and scenes work for the common good, as Obama might say.

Actually, I get along with dozens of people, just not anonymous scumbags like you who lurk around Topix.com , bitterly whining and jealously heckling.

BTW, how you been, old pal?

The Heavy did:

Very interesting piece on The Heavy and details on the "Columbus Georgia sound"...

http://www.canada.com/Heavy+What+makes+good+b...

"...Encouraged, Swaby says, by conversations about old pre-Elvis southern R&B music he'd had with The Heavy's American tour bus driver -- named, if the lore is to be believed, Sam Phillips -- and conversations about where the driver had grown up, the band left its hometown near Bath, where they formed more than a half-decade ago, and headed to Georgia [...] When you're there, the vibe that Sam was telling me about is so ever-present, it's absolutely everywhere. When we were outside listening to the toads and the crickets and you're in the bayou, and you're like ...'This place is incredible.' It really, really began to take shape once we were recording the vocals, it really seemed to make sense..."

Indeed that does nail that vibe as best seen and heard and felt by outsiders not immune to the Southern Gothic Sway.
