Looking for other pickers who played with William who was based out of Knoxville, Tn. He owned the Savannah beach club scene for some time. I am constructing a web page in his honor and seek any and all photos, stories, press clippings.....pretty much anything related. If you knew William, you know he had a heart of gold tho he could really piss you off. He worked many a musician giving them stage experience they may never get elsewhere. You didn't rehearse, you went to work. Down inside he was a good fellow and I think someone should honor him in some way. Please respond here first.Thank You!

I remember him well.played with him and grady at Some Place Else on the river front.Late 60's. He was sneaking me out my folks bedroom window (I was in junior high-8th grade). Finally one night my old man shows up and me and william bout had a heart attack. did a week with him and sam the sham.he used to ride to the gig in that land barge lincoln or the big red fire engine he bought. I knew he was connected to the Allmans so when I began to associate with greg after he moved here we talked about it.he remembered william.

Played guitar with the Stereos circa 1967-68. First band I ever played with that hired me for a set weekly salary! Quite a bit of money at the time, and Bill knew everyone. I was playing with them when they backed a young Ronnie Milsaps, who at the time was being billed as the "white Ray Charles." This was at the WNOX auditorium in Knoxville, and Bill was angry that Ronnie got top billing. I'll never forget that night... Bill was playing bass, and he deliberately kicked off all Ronnie's songs in the wrong key. So funny.

Played in Knoxville, Daytona, Atlanta. I saw the underbelly of rock music and decided that kinda living wasn't for me. I've been preaching the Gospel for forty years now. Whole lot better way to live.

This might be a little long..... Hi my name is Bobby Boykin I was the guitar player in his band at Some Place Else around 1968 or 69 I was still in high school and lived on a farm in Effingham County. I recorded a 8 Track tape with him in Augusta GA around that time. We all drove up in a van together after the gig on a Saturday nite. On the cover of the 8 Track tape I was the one in a flag shirt with long red curly hair. We were sitting in a window of one of the old boarded up buildings on River Street. I have for a long time tried to find some one who might have known of this recording and William back then I lost my only copy in a storm in Florida. I talk about my days with him and that club in interviews I have done over the years and would really like a copy of the 8 track to show people it's real. When I tell the stories, I have many, me with him the band and the girls at the house where he lived on Tybee, Gregg and Duane and the Hells Angels who were there often there at the club no one believes me, haha. I now live in Los Angeles and Nashville producing still playing and it all started for me at Some Place Else with Sweet William in Savannah in the late 60s. I was also on the gig the Night Sam The Sham played with us there and went on the road with him to Daytona Beach for one gig during spring break where he got arrested for income tax evasion that night and the Feds took him away and we all went home, that was a crazy night. Anyway if anybody know about any of this please contact me through my site here www.bobboykin.com .
