We saw an ad in USA TODAY for some condos on Whitemarsh, advertised as being very close to Savannah. We've been to Savannah many times but aren't familiar with Whitemarsh.
Does anybody have knowledge of the Mercer Point development?

What they have done is turned the apartments formerly known as "Walden Park" into these condos. They are very nice. Approximately 10 min from downtown and 20 min to Ogelthorpe mall area. There are some very nice condos for sale on wilmington island (a little closer to tybee) that are more of the traditional condo, rather than apartments.

Hope this helps!

I just moved out of these apartments in may, they are apartments even though they now call them condos. Not worth what they are asking for them.

Apartment Conversion. Apartments were never built with good firewall and dead air space delineation. Overpriced. You can buy a nice home for same price.

We have been looking at them, also. They seem to be very nice. I do not know if you hear people talking in the next unit or not due to lack of a firewall. We live in Newnan so I do not know the area that well to know if there are other nice condos on Whitemarsh or Wilmington Island. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

There are far too many trees left on Wilmington. They really need to cut down more trees and pave more green space over. Does anyone know if there's a way to pour concrete over the marsh? It's so unstable, wet and smelly. Definitely need more condos and subdivisions on Wilmington and Tybee.

Did you end up buying in that site? I am looking for something similar but I thought the prices were too high. Any suggestions?

Hello All,
My wife and I have purchased a condo on Whitemarsh Island. We bought a 1 bedroom at "The Merritt" just down the street from "Mercer Point". My wifes parents purchased a 2 bedroom at Mercer Point. All I can say is, We can't wait for each weekend to roll around so we can escape the headache of Atlanta and relax in Slovannah.
We are 10 min from downtown/Riverestreet and 15 from Tybee Island. The location is awesome. Publix, Kroger, Wal-Mart, Bank of America are all within biking distance. Sunsets are amazing. The people are wonderful. We love it.
The build quality of our "condo" is average/above average. We don't hear other owners talking or yelling. Every now and then we can hear hard footsteps above us. Nothing to really complain about. The walls are solid. Windows and doors standard builders grade. We really don't have anything negitive to say about, "The Merritt" or Whitemarsh Island. As soon as my wifes parents move into Mercer Point I'll update this and let people know our review of the place.
One thing I can say negitive about our experience is the sales staff. Typical sales people...they will simonize your car, wash the boat, promise you the moon....before the sale. Once the ink is on the bill of sale you'll never hear from them again. So get anything and everything in writing. Don't trust that southern charm and the good ole boy system of a handshake. If it's not on the contract, kiss it good bye for the most part. There are exceptions but few.
In short, come on down. It's an wonderful escape from the hustle and bustle of a big city. All the best.......

I was part of the sales team at Mercer Point for the first four months. They are nice but you can hear people above you. It's a great location just minutes from downtown or the beach. There are several nice place to live in the Savannah area. If you want some more info you can e-mail me by going to my website jodydriggers.com .

Are you kidding me???!!!! That is the most absurd thing I have ever heard. I grew up on Wilmington Island and the development over the past ten years is begining to ruin the natural beauty of the island. Maybe someone should pour concrete over you.

Well, I've noticed that the Yankees don't like the frightful smells coming from the marsh.

I fear that ultimately the marsh stank is bad for business.

Outside of the historic district (which will soon see the additon of a mega "city within the city" down on the river), where do you see Savannah preserving its beauty and its charm?

Looks to me like it's headed to Hilton Head generic-ness.
