Long story short, no, you can't. You must provide info to "counter" the adjustments the IRS proposes, otherwise their adjustments stand.

On a SOMEWHAT related subject to your question above: one (a tax payer) does NOT have the benefit of "privileged communication" with a CPA or other tax preparer, only with an attorney. That's why, if you might have some complicated or contentious potential tax issues, it's a good idea to engage a CPA that is also an attorney.

Any person with a lick of common sense or experience understands these are undeniable truths - evidenced every day in the world around us.

Actually, I like people -rich and poor. The rich help make me relatively well off by paying me,(reasonably well), to help them stay out of trouble as they increase their wealth. They all understand the system is rigged in their favor because they paid to rig it. Do you think they are stupid enough to donate Billions to politicians without obtaining a reasonable ROI ?

By the way, statistically speaking, if we both are paying 20% capital gains now- we are in similar financial circumstances.

Now sit down and have a glass if water and contemplate adjusting your paradigm to reflect reality.
