The clueless and uneducated wealth envy dude rears his ugly head again...This EVIL rich people!
If you TOOK all of the wealth of the around 400-500 billionaires in the US, how long do you think it would run the country? What would it do to the $16.5 TRILLION debt we have? For how long? What do we do next?
You talk about "wealth envy" quite a lot. That leads me to believe that your problem really is with pride, not whether a bunch of "takers" are going to loot your wealth. You might want to try and humble yourself sometimes. Like the bible says, you can't take it with you.

But you do put up a few good arguments. And one of those is whether our country should tax wealth as opposed to earnings. There are many people out there who believe the rich should be taxed on their wealth. It's been pointed out many times that the very rich usually don't "earn" much money (unless you're a golfer!) and accrue their money often through capital gains (which typically are taxed lower than similar dollars earned by an average "worker").

I'm not so sure taxing the rich at higher rates, or just plain taking it away - as some suggest - is the answer. I myself don't "envy" the rich. But I do think our country should take a long, hard look at how our tax system is set up and level the playing field.

Personally, I think all income, whether from the sweat of the brow, or capital gains, should be taxed equally. I don't subscribe to this nonsensical idea that the rich should get tax breaks on investments because only the rich create jobs. If there weren't garbage truck drivers and carpenters and millions of other common Americans out there spending their paychecks on groceries, gas, etc. there would be no jobs. So while the "working class" might no create jobs, they certainly do create the demand for jobs to be created.

I think it's really time to rework the tax code and make it fairer for all citizens. Take away the loopholes and tax breaks. If we all pay our fair share of taxes our country will be much better off.

It seems to me the republicans are campaigning against themselves. They really think the average american is dumb. I voted for Obama because the alternative was Romney. Romney had the better budget plan I think, but that last debate really showed his ignorance when it come to foriegn affairs. The man broke out sweating and almost conceded. This whole national debt is real, but it's not like there's anybody going to come collecting. It's mainly the only thing the republicans got to cause fear and confusion. Most of this debt was there when Obama got there. It doesn't matter who was put in there. It's going to take decades to get back right after Bushhog. I try not to sweat the small stuff. I do on the other hand have problem with being spyed on and/or killed. I think if a man is at his home he should be left alone. I also think that an american citizen should have a fair trial or at least be given the chance to surrender. I think if little Johnny gets caught by them over there. I'm sure his family and him would rather him be tortured a little bit than killed.
"Romney had the better budget plan I think..."

You think? What budget plan does the POTUSA have?

"Most of this debt was there when Obama got there."

No, it wasn't.

"This whole national debt is real, but it's not like there's anybody going to come collecting."

Really? BTW, do you know how much interesting is accruing on the debt?

You have some fair points, your first paragraph is clueless, but that's OK.

Some states already tax wealth (property taxes, ad valorem, etc.), not to mention "death taxes".

"and accrue their money often through capital gains (which typically are taxed lower than similar dollars earned by an average "worker")"

Is it accrue or earn? BTW, do you know the rationale as to why capital gains are (currently) taxed at a lower rate for ALL of us?

"I think it's really time to rework the tax code and make it fairer for all citizens. Take away the loopholes and tax breaks. If we all pay our fair share of taxes our country will be much better off."

+1

Likely the best comment you have made in here. However, can you define fair? Should everybody pay something? Should all pay the same rate (a flat tax)? On income? On spending (the FairTax)? On wealth? If on wealth, how do you do it, the process would be nightmarish, probably more so than what we go through preparing tax returns...

You and your other 2 sock puppets are about as clueless at one can get. Obama is the leader of the free world, now thats a fact. You can disagree with him all you want, thats what makes this country great. But you have closed what mind you have left when it comes to the facts. The facts as to how we got in this situation to start with and what has been done to try and recover and on and on an on. You have turned disagreeing into pure hate, and the only reason is color, the ONLY reason.
The default position of those who cannot support their position with actual facts because the truth is that this administration's policies have only made economic conditions worse. Blame all you want on Bush, but the truth is that if you want to look at the housing crisis and it's impact on the economy go look at the Community Investment Act, the Clinton Justice Dept breathing down the necks of banks so they would offer home loans to those who couldn't afford them, and Christopher Dodd and Barney Frank protecting Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to keep their contributions and sweetheart deals coming in. My disagreement with Obama's positions (and most Democrat positions) is based on policies that are proven to be detrimental to the country - never based on skin color. But you keep screaming racism, that's what the ignorant do best.

Some of your points are valid, some are not when looking at the bigger picture. Taxing capital gains at the same rate as income will bring more money into the public coffers, but that is going to hurt the middle class far more than it will hurt the uber rich. Granted with the current housing market, this example is not as good as usual, however, typically the biggest capital gain your average American earned was if they sold their house after living in it for a decade or more. You sell your house and with the increased value that it was sold at, you can purchase a bigger and better house. But if the difference between what you paid and what you sold your house for is taxed at the same rate as income, it is going to be much less likely to enable you to upgrade to a nicer house. Or if senior citizens want to sell their family home and downsize, the "profit" they would have made to put towards their retirement has just been slashed dramatically. This is the problem with "quick fixes" and soundbites that sound good on paper until you start looking at the real impact they have on average citizens.

But can you imagine the impact of a flat tax of 12% on everyone with no deductions except to perhaps exempt the bottom tier of wage earners. You could virtually eliminate the IRS - that same IRS that asked for over 1,200 new employees for 2012 at a cost to taxpayers of an additional $473 millions. And that same IRS that has increased audits on small businesses from 32% to 94% depending on the size of the business - and that is a whole lot of money spent by those businesses that could be spent on expansion and employees.

I applaud you if you reject racism and racist stereotypes.

Let's assume that the previous poster didn't mean you specifically were racist, but that there was a very strong and hard-to-ignore element of racism involved with Republican supporters in general.

Would you deny that premise or support it?

I would deny it vehemently. Are there racists in the Republican party - absolutely, but I am very comfortable in saying that there is no greater a percentage of racists in the Republican party than there is in the Democrat party. The Republican party welcomes all who agree with our principles regardless of skin color, but look at what the Democrat party does to any minority who DARES to step outside the party line. Clarence Thomas, Condoleesa Rice, Allen West and Tim Scott are examples who come immediately to mind. They are called house n------ and Uncle Toms or portrayed in cartoons as step-and-fetch-its or Aunt Jemima. THAT is racism at it's finest and the Left gets away with it. Obama gets away with attending a church for 20 years that has as it's pastor one of the most hatefully bigoted people it has ever been my misfortune to hear. But Trent Lott makes an ambiguous statement at a birthday party for Strom Thurmond (no hero of mine) and he loses his Senate minority leader position. Does anyone else see a double standard? Just one example of many.

Oh, yeah and YOU libs are just purely paragons of virtuel, huh? YOU aren't brainwashed nor close minded, huh? You are doing EXACTLY as Obama wants you to do. You aren't holding him responsible for ANYTHING that's happening in regard to increased debt, higher taxes, etc. It must be great to be him and have so many uninformed people lapping up anything he slings out. He IS the president, but he is NO LEADER. Obama PREACHES hate and you libs are too dimwitted to figure that out. This country has NEVER been in such a state of hatred and class division. The common denominator: OBAMA. Color???? What a laugh. You libs haven't thrown down the worn out, uneffective race card in at least an hour. It was about time for THAT to happen. YAWN.

Well, you're right. It was an ignorant question. Might as well ask if the sky is blue. Of COURSE it is.

However, you're no rocket-surgeon, that's for sure.

The correct term would be accrue.

Here is Merriam-Wbster's definition of each:

----------
Definition of ACCRUE

intransitive verb
1
: to come into existence as a legally enforceable claim
2
a : to come about as a natural growth, increase, or advantage <the wisdom that accrues with age>
b : to come as a direct result of some state or action <rewards due to the feminine will accrue to me — Germaine Greer>
3
: to accumulate or be added periodically <interest accrues on a daily basis>

----------

Definition of EARN

1
a : to receive as return for effort and especially for work done or services rendered
b : to bring in by way of return <bonds earning 10 percent interest>
2
a : to come to be duly worthy of or entitled or suited to <she earned a promotion>
b : to make worthy of or obtain for <the suggestion earned him a promotion>

No, I do not. If you can explain such in a reasonable and helpful manner, by all means, do so. If you going use your typical rants about ignorant people, then please refrain. I am certainly open to understanding the situation of capital gains further. And by the way, if your response is "look it up yourself" please don't bother responding.

Daily Horoscope for June 18

Sagittarius

It's a great day for mixing and mingling with people you always get on well with, so try not to keep yourself to yourself too much as that would be a real shame on a day when you're feeling so convivial and friendly. Speaking of friends, you'll enjoy spending time with them now, especially if you share some core values.
