Four jailed after College of Marin attack

Three Marin City men and a San Rafael man were arrested Tuesday on allegations they beat a College of Marin student in an on-campus attack.

If the five attackers were also students at College Of Marin, I sincerely hope they're expelled. There needs to be a strong message that campus violence will not be tolerated, beyond whatever happens to them via the legal system.

The students got jumped while still on campus?!? Ugh... Why don't they just close down COM already. It's becoming apparent that anyone who actually cares about their education enrolls at Santa Rosa Junior College, choosing to endure the commute instead of attending College of Marin which seems to become more and more of a cesspool/money pit every year. I hope I'm wrong.

But then College of Marin will be sued for racism and intolerance. We must give them Section 8, Food Stamps, WIC, and most important of all, tolerance and understanding. America has a long way to go, just ask any one in Marin City.

Ahh, the College of Marin saga continues. You know, if the college ran background checks on its students, nearly half would be unable to attend. It is apparent that the Marin City folks have nothing better on their hands than beating people up. After all, they weren't studying or in class. Tardy!

At some point, the tax payers will come around and implement change. Until then...the beatings continue...sadly :(

What is your problem? Are you saying that these kids should be able to return to classes after they're bailed out, as if nothing happened? I don't think I'm alone on this...people who commit crimes on campus should not be allowed to attend the school. ONE strike and you're OUT! Plain and simple.

I hope the IJ will do the responsible thing and followup on this story. I am a neighbor of COM, commend their outreach to the Marin City community and am aware that these kids, for whatever reason, have had $$$ thrown at them but are still scoring low. Judging from the comments, which came from out further than the neighborhood, thankfully, the kids have some opinions to deal with. I, for one, would like to know if this is an isolated and rare robbery, gang stuff (kinda doubt it, as I saw the kids), "you stole my ipod stuff, give it back" stuff, or other provocation.
And BTW, under Meg Whitman, middle class white families will be struggling to send their late bloomers to less experienced, privatized venues with results that are questionable but big debt that will follow anyway. Sorta like getting your McMansion foreclosed on. COM has been doing the job for several generations, it is now in a position to do outreach where it is needed and there's your tax dollars at work.

Hold your horses! Surely these beatings resulted from unpaid drug debts or other trivial disputes. Every college has druggies. Don`t disparage COM for the hyjinks of kids having fun. Attend a REAL college if you want or need an education.
