Anyone been out of Michigan lately and seen advertising to promote vacationing here? Not cheesy "Play at Little River" ads, but well made "attention getting" commercials promoting everything Michigan has to offer. I see other states advertising locally and was curious if budget cuts have left us out of the game. Summer is Michigan's big tourist draw, but people need to be reminded we exist.

It is nice that people are offering some incentives. It really could be a win-win situation for them.

I wouldn't mind the gas cards but I do have to wonder about some of the plans. The trailer storage won't benefit most people, unless you live in the UP. I understand the concept - your gas mileage in cut in half while towing - but I just don't know many people that go back to the same park within 2 weeks, especially from here going up to the UP.

I wonder why the guy who owns the pipeline gouging Michigan drivers was not tried for treason for giving aid and support to Saddam in exchange for bribes?

His name is Oscar Wyatt (Google him)

And he is a very evil man!

Gas prices are way out of control!! People can hardly afford to go back and forth to work let alone a vacation!! Something more needs to be done about the sky high gas prices in Michigan!! Giving out gas cards is nice, but it's not going to help the everyday Joe that is barely getting by.

Nope, nothing. But a ton of ads to visit Indiana. The have "Restart You Engines" ad campaign going on right now. Maybe Michigan is advertising, but in other states?

Hmmm, nothing from Mackinaw City yet. I'm still waiting for them to drop their prices before I book. Perhaps after a dismal Memorial Day they will come down. They are still charging last years rates up there.

Boy, up here over the weekend there was a ton of traffic. People are still making the trip to their lakeside Cottages. Lots of trucks.

I live in Tulsa and see on CNN as well as MSNBC commercials to vacation to Michigan as well as ones to bring your business to Michigan. These are national stations so the commercials should be viewable from every state.

Actually, WBBM in Chicago advertizes Traverse City often.

Those are notoriously liberal news (and I use the term news loosely here) stations and their (the liberals) lives are so miserable and horrible at this time I am sure they can't afford to go anywhere.

Two years ago the advertising was cut from the budget. This year the advertising was downsized yet again. It was one of the sticking points of balancing the budget.
No tourists mean less tax dollars, less taxes well we know how it goes....
