Running for Mayor of Sauk Village? Know someone that is, or even thinking of running yourself, here is your chance to announce it, what your Mayoral bid will bring to Sauk Village and what you plan to do for the current issues in Sauk Village, as well as to improve Sauk Village and how. Crime, Schools, Taxes, Economic Development, Housing, Declining Property Values, Village Services, and Ordinances should be interesting starts for your topics.

An informed public, is a powerful public.

I would say that there appear to be 3 possible candidates either who decided to run or are considering a run:

David Hanks, Village Trustee who lost to the incumbent Mayor in 2005 by only 23 votes

Derrick Burgess, Village Trustee

and

Lewis Tower

I'm sure there may be at least one more coming!

I've been to a few sv functions and have never seen Burgess. I do admit heís a nice guy but some of the new ordnances heís has voted for I don't agree with him. I did vote for him last election. But I'm going with Towers. I have seen him at many functions and is always helping with something. Haven't seen Hanks at any either. Hanks and Burgess are both trustees and look at the way the village has gone. They have the power to change things now and I see nothing. I'm going for someone new and that I know jumps in and helps out not just sits in a chair and make new ordnances. Some of the parking lots here are unbelievable. The holes are so big in the winter someone is going to have their car swallowed up never to be seen again. We need to clean up some of the businessís that are here and try to get new businessís to come here. Maybe get public works to start getting the yards and parkways they mess up back to the way they were. You can drive around and see all the places they have dug up.
I was talking to a neighbor that got their yard dug up last year they called many times this summer for them to fix it and nothing. I know if I have patches in my grass I get a ticket.. Time to start ticketing them. Could use a grant writer that looks for grants. There has to be grants out there. We need the cops to start enforcing curfew for the kids out here. Years ago everyone knew, your out after curfew you got busted. Now kids walk around at all hours. I donít think they have a clue there is a curfew out here.

Lewis Towers is a do nothing, He acts like he cares. All he cares about is sticking his nose in things and then states he is on this committee and that committee when in fact he hardly does anything for this town! He likes to take credit for being on certain committees and he doesn't even help but he has know problem standing up taking credit.

How do you figure he does nothing? He was at the corn roast cooking corn, he was at the festival in the rain, he was part of starting the concerned citizen group and there is a youth group branching off of that. I saw that with my own eyes. I didn't even mention a committee he is on. Thatís a lot of time spent on the village when he could be sitting at home. You must care if you give up your time like that. Who is doing more then that for the village? Let me know I would like to make an informed vote on Election Day.

Anyone have any information on what Mr.Hanks or Mr. Burgess have done or is doing to help the Village. Besides doing their trustee duties, what are they doing? What do they want to do as Mayor?I would like to know more about them before its time to vote.

Burgess has lived in Sauk Village for 26 years and has served on the Village Board since his 2006 appointment. He ran for trustee four years ago but lost by 22 votes. He won election to a four-year term last year.
Burgess is a former member of the Sauk Village Zoning Board of Appeals, is currently chairman of the village's Park and Recreation and Youth Committee, and is a member of the Police Association, which he said is a volunteer organization that helps children and indigent families.
He also is a member of St. James Catholic Church and previously served as vice president of the former St. James School Board and was the board's finance chairman.
He is also a member of the Deer Creek Homeowners Association and the Deer Creek Watch. He has tried to help set up neighborhood watches all over Sauk Village. I tried to get either Chicago water to Sauk Village(it was voted down because of the cost) or a new filtration system to improve the quality of water. He is also a member of the Sauk Village Police Association.

The annual corn and dog roast is hosted by the Parks and Recreation committee which is chaired by Derrick Burgess. This committee is also responsible for the Halloween parade, the basketball team, the summer camps, Miss Sauk Village, Miss Liberty, etc.

It is worth noting that David Hanks has not declared his candidacy for Mayor. There is much speculation that he will run. There is also speculation that Jim Schultz who is also a trustee may run, but that has not been confirmed.

Burgess and Towers have unofficially stated that they would run. Nominating petitions are due to be filed in January.

Additionally, Debbie Williams- mother of Trustee Rosie Williams, has been circulating a nominating petition to run for Village Clerk.

We are following this race very closely and will be taking additional polls throughout this election process on here as well as direct calling to likely voters in Sauk Village.

I haven't seen him at these functions. As a matter of fact don't remember seeing any trustees there. I might have missed it but I didnít see any of them. District 168 was involved with the corn roast. Saw many teachers, board members, the superintendent and principals there. Saw lots of volenteers working but not a trustee. Maybe if the trustee's would get involved instead of just making decisions they would get a feel what the people here in the village need and want. The school is slowly changing, test scores have increased just not up to state standards yet, but that takes time after what we have been through. Village hall needs a big change to get things moving. Just like the old school board was responsible for letting Ryan take over and drag our schools down; the trustees are responsible for the way the village has gone.

Maybe you need to have your eye's examined! He is at every function that Parks and Rec has unlike Lewis Towers that claims he is on that committee. Where was Mr. Towers for the dance as usual he never helps unless it makes him look good.

Resident you are a very rude person. I don't need glasses, Thank You. I did say if you read my post again,*unless I missed it* It's nice that you have made your choice; I choose to learn more of the people running before I vote for them. It's so helpful reading some of your posts on the Sauk Village info forum, hard to believe you can be so condescending now. I was only saying what I saw with my own eyes.(And I didnít need glasses to see it) I never said he was a bad guy, was just saying what I know and saw; you didnít need to jump in to rescue his honor. So the bad eye sight comment was not necessary.

David Hanks was first elected to the Sauk Village Board in April, 1999 and was re-elected for a second four-year term in April, 2003, as Village Trustee. His current Village Board assignment includes chairing the Economic Development Committee. During his years on the Village Board David has also served as Commissioner on the Calumet Corridor Council, Route 30 Corridor Council and the South Suburban Commuter Rail Corridor Sub-Committee. David is also the Corporate Quality Supervisor for Fellowes Inc. in Itasca, IL. He is responsible for new product development testing, incoming audits and Quality Lab personnel. David is a longtime resident of Sauk Village and has served the community in his youth as a cadet on the Sauk Village Police Department, and later as a Commissioner on the Zoning Board of Appeals. David is married to Linda and they have ten children (five boys and five girls). David and Linda love living in Sauk Village and are excited to be part of a town that has so much to offer--great quality of life, wonderful people, and many opportunities. David considers it an honor and privilege to serve the people of Sauk Village in his role on the Village Board and encourages citizens to contact him regarding their concerns, suggestions, and comments about the Village of Sauk Village.
