My fellow birders and I were deeply disturbed upon hearing of an arrest of Paul Peterson who was birdwatching in Saugus recently. A group of 8 of us just spent over $2000 birdwatching in the Massachusetts area. The police man told me that birds are not seen in the winter. It is hard to believe that this person does not know any better. We had several life birds which are birds never seen before by any of us and 75 different birds for the New England trip.
I am sure that birders will think twice about spending their money in certain Massachusetts areas after this.
On a good note, we stayed at the Hampton Inn in Peabody and had wonderful service! Very professional and friendly! We are from the Midwest and had heard about East Coast people not being as friendly.
I guess there are extremes but this sort of police action is scary!
