What has happened to society? Time was that when people committed suicide, society assumed that the suicide victims had something wrong with them that left them less capable of making good decisions. Now we blame other people? Bullying is not new. There has always been bullying, even outright cruelty. But somehow people had enough fortitude to brush it off and go on with their lives. Now, in this age when we've been coached endlessly about having high self-esteem, people do not have enough self-esteem to realize they have self-worth far beyond what a bully can see and hold onto their precious lives? Nobody, absolutely nobody, can make someone take their own life. No matter what, it is still their decision, still their actions. Frankly, it was kinder to the suicide victims to ASSUME something was wrong with them mentally than to think they could be driven to do such a horrendous thing by the actions of another. Assuming a mental illness makes them less responsible for the choice. To do it in reaction to someone else puts the responsibility squarely in their own hands. We all choose our own actions and reactions. This situation is no different.

I think these are cases where a point is being made. These kids weren't bothering anyone. Weren't bothering a soul. They killed themselves because of a specific type of bullying.

OH, WHOOPS, THEY WERE GAY, THAT'S RIGHT. HOW COULD WE FORGET.

Same old issue. Same old cast of characters. And here's you, trying your damnedest not to take any blame.

Know what? Everything on god's green earth has a flip side. You realize what your post *really* looks like? A rant about "who's to blame"? Yeah, I wasn't fooled.

The worst part is that you appear, here, to have attempted to PRETEND to "restrain" yourself, probably because of the subject matter. I agree with the first poster. The blood of this is on the hands and smeared all over the faces and foreheads of those who won't stop obsessing over this subject and denigrating people for who they are,

SOUND FAMILIAR?

Yet you can't shut up and you can't stop; you make exuses.

Meanwhile, thank goodness for authorities who *DON'T* agree with you and *WON'T* be following your prescription, but are instead *PROSECUTING* against at least one of these deaths. Since those being prosecuted had. no. reason. to do. what they did. period.

really? you ignorant bastard, is that why when my cousin came out to his family and his father kicked him and stomped him half to death, he crawled outside onto the front porch and shot himself in the head? was it because he just couldn't stand being bullied, or because he was weak? should we assume that he had a mental problem which caused him to not be able to make a right decision, or might we possibly assume that he simply couldn't live with the hatred which would cause his own father to call him vile names and stomp him into unconsciousness?

Time was, there were dunking stools to which women were tied to and often drowned in filthy water because of trumped up charges resulting from them disobeying their husbands.

Society progresses, and lunatic reactionaries like you sit and moan about it.

Mom, I once thought better of you but the more you post the more you come across as an unkind, unfeeling, cruel person. I hope your children keep your grandkids far away from you.

One more thing, Mom.

I find it telling that you have not one word of criticism for bullies who are influential in causing these kids to committ suicide. Why, because like most conservatives, you have a bully mentality and find a bully society to be your ideal. You think people who are different than you should be harassed, bullied, treated differently, and discriminated against. Mom, I would argue that it is people such as yourself who have the (mental) problem. You have a distinct lack of empathy for other human beings. That is a form of sociopathy.

Well; blaming the victim doesn't work. People are still dying. Bullies are getting away with murder
.
The only effective method is to publicly execute the bully(s) responsible for the deaths
.
Once the word gets out; bullying will cease to be a popular sport

Don't want to be hated by everyone, R1, then stop being a spineless troll. But at least being hated gives you some type of attention. Lord knows you must not get any out there off of this anonymous messaging board.

It is an improvement that these cases are starting to be reported for what they are.

This isn't a new phenomenon. We've been saying it for years.

Why should they try to stifle away who they are in order to appease a bunch of thugs? You may be a coward, but that doesn't mean everyone else has to. These kids did nothing wrong, and should have been treated better.

People like "not duped" are so brave! How brave they are! Boo hoo! They stand up to people and get curb-stomped five or six times (verbally, by the replies), but they keep doing it again! They're gonna be brave and stick by their guns!

So do rapists, from what I hear. They aren't deterred either, are they.
