Putnam County deputy recovering after beating, near shooting

PUTNAM COUNTY, Fla. -- A Putnam County Sheriff's Office deputy is recovering after being beaten, disarmed, and nearly shot by two men after an altercation early Sunday in East Palatka.

First, before I get accused of being a cop-hater, wishing death upon them, let me say I'm glad nobody got shot.
Now, somebody please fill in the gaps in this story for me. Why did Corbin approach these men with a gun when they were only being verbal? After calling 911 why didn't he just wait in the car with his wife until deputies arrived to defuse the situation, acting as a witness in case it turned physical? Are they fluent in English and did they understand he was an off-duty deputy? The reason I ask this is because they ran when they heard the sirens, but had no hesitation arguing with and beating Corbin. Where did the two bullets he wildly shot end up?
It's a shame that Corbin just didn't stay in his car. Did he unnecessarily put himself in a situation that would have ended differently - instead of these young men facing a capital felony, punishable by death?

I've been wondering these things myself. I've seen this deputy before. He rides around in the patrol car off duty and wears jeans and a hat with his gun and badge on his hip like he is a detective. Why would he fire two shots wildly? What if one of those bullets had hit a gas pump? And, if he was off duty, why was he still wearing his gun while pumping gas? Was he in his personal vehicle or the patrol car? I don't give a damn what anyone says, if you come at me in plain clothes with a gun and shoot at me I'm going to do what I can to hurt you! That is called self defense. He got what he deserved. Maybe he learned a lesson. You don't pull a gun on anyone while in plain clothes. Especially over something so petty. And shoot at them over something so petty? He is lucky his gun jambed because quite frankly, he would have had it coming to himself for being so stupid in that situation! I would have reacted the same way those men did in the same situation. I feel like he was just trying to be the big hero because his wife was with him. I bet Hardy will find a way to cover this one up. Besides, I feel there should be regulations about the spouses, girlfriends, or any family riding along in the patrol cars. Maybe that would help to curb the hero antics?

lets see how hardy handles this, he fires a deputy for speeding,(kruger) with no crash but lets see how he handles it when a deputy shoots wildly in a crowded area

another deputy (mainville) shoots wildly at a car without cause, thus committing attempted murder
but simply gets put in communications

NCLR (National Council of La Raza) is the largest national organization for Hispanics' civil rights, discrimination and immigration issues, etc. Their version of the NAACP.
They've been notified of this matter, and hopefully nothing will be swept under the rug.
Corbin was the aggressor and put himself and his gun in a VERBAL situation, and FL Statute does not allow the use of deadly force for getting punched. It appears the two men were standing their ground after Corbin tried to shoot them first, was disarmed, then tried to recover the weapon.

As usual, you are so far off the facts of the event. As usual, you should be ashamed of your self judging the position that deputy was in. As usual, no outside organization will get involved because everything was on the up and up. The overwhelming majority of cops in this county and across the country do an outstanding job, busting their ass everyday for ungrateful arrogant people like you. A deputy is on duty 24 hours a day, everyday. Corbin had every right to intervene in that situation and did not draw his weapon until his life was threatened. It is sickening that you use him as a pawn in your psychotic hate for Hardy. What you should be doing is showing a little respect for the deputies that do a job most would not even consider and for the supervisory staff that work hard everyday to ensure that even people like you are receiving quality law enforcement services. This week is National Law Enforcement Officer Memorial Week. The week that the nation honors law enforcement officers. Take a break from your ranting, step away from your computer and show up at the local service for law officers at Mt. Tabor Baptist Church.

How many times do I have to say I don't hate Hardy, just the poor job he does as Sheriff? I actually had a good time with him a few years back, and he can be quite funny.

Not everything I say is against Hardy, I talk about whoever raises questions - Getchell, cops, deputies, City Hall, Beck. We're still pulling together the paperwork on Mrs. Weeks and PPD, over 800 pages, so don't worry, PCSO will get a break.
It's not work. You follow the money trail or get an IA report when you can, read it three times, then solve the puzzle! It's seems they try to set up a maze of obstacles, instead of public transparency, but, by law, they can't deny you access. They just stall alot!

Exactly! If you're a deputy on bowling's radar he would have used this to discipline you. I only know what has been in the news about this case, but it doesn't matter. Justified or not, if bowling wanted you gone he would spin it. That's how this admin roles.
