Is Melbourne boring?

[Curious]

Wondered if people who live there consider the area a little boring or is there enough stuff to do there? Thinking about moving there but wondered if there is enough to do as compared to other parts of FL? Thoughts?

Well, if it's big city life excitement you're after, yea you'll be bored in Melbourne. But Orlando is only 50 minutes away and Tampa two hours...

I love the beach, watching the space launches, checking out the wildlife on the rivers and wetlands, surfing with dolphins, etc... not bored at all. Boring is as boring does ; )

Melbourne was a great place to grow up; however, the influx of out-of-staters that don't value nature's gifts have turned it into just another want-to-be, mid-size crappy place where no real growth planning was ever done. Young professionals won't be coming here to live because the facilities they like; i.e. dog parks, bike paths, running courses, clean waterways aren't there. Now it's just a place where the old fossils come to live off their SS and die

You mean "Mel-BORING"?? Um, YES it is extremely boring. No decent shopping, no decent dining, no nightlife, no Arts to speak of. No interesting topography. No outdoor activities (unless you like to fish or play golf -- two of the most BORING activities on planet earth). A hugely smelly river and geriatric snowbirds who clog the roads all winter going to/from their early morning Dr. appointments. Yes, Melbourne is BORING! Can't wait to get the heck out of this horrible place!!

You're quite correct. I am miserable here but... I've spent more time in wilderness areas than you've dreamed about spending (and I absolutely can not stand New York). Thing is you can't do that sort of thing here because (1) it's hotter than hades (2) the bugs will carry you away (3) it's hotter than hades (4) there's nothing to look at (5) oppressive humidity (6) it's hotter than hades (7) ugly, flat terrain (8) banana spiders (9) It's hotter than hades.

So tell me... what is there to do here? Fish? BORING! Golf? BORING! Take long walks on the beach? BORING! Enjoy the change of seasons? IMPOSSIBLE! Go camping? TOO DAMN HOT AND BUGGY! Stay shut up in your house for 7 months because it's too hot to do anything outside? THAT's IT!

Anyway, I rant so that people who are contemplating a move here will see the other side of the coin. Sure, it's nice for about two weeks in January but the rest of the time, Brevard County is hot and boring.

Haridopolis is State Senate District 26. The district above you is 24. I know someone that is running for that seat and agrees there must be a chance for actual representation of the people in his district. Steve Edmonds is running as a No Party Affiliation candidate that believes that special interests should be the people of his district. Check out his site http://www.edmonds4senate24.com . boring. lol. boring is as boring does... I'll take surfing the sunrise with dolphins then hitting up the wetlands for some nature shots, bikini models eerywhere I look all day and chilling on the riverside at a nice restaurant in the evening with a cool drink to relax. The yankees are too uptight and discontent wherever they end up. Even in paradise.: P

My money is on beach bum. Brevard County is full of 'em and has been as far back as I can remember (40+ years). Just look at the hippies riding rusted bicycles all around, the pigs who walk into Wal-Mart barefoot and the shuttered commercial properties all over the area. Yeah. Real nice place to live.

Pete, what is that about?? The houses beachside are run down as well. Does anyone conform to any set of rules, or is it a "Jonestown" attitude. Been down to other parts of Fla that had less "radical" people. Shame.

I work hard at a real job and I play hard when not working. Never bored. Too busy having fun. We are laid back folks, not so uptight about appearances and such, too bad you probably don't even personally know any locals anymore it's so overcrowded with you yankees and besides we stay away from the places you haunt round here from November thru April ... Melbourne used to be a best kept secret on the east coast but the fly by night yankee developers took care of that, after south Florida was full-up. I'd say y'all oughta just go on up 95 a ways till you see the smokestacks of Jacksonville and smell the paper mill - you'll feel right at home!
