A friend told me today to go to pioneer website and run their speed test.Whoa over 5mb download. NOW try the internet speed test elsewhere. You'll notice your net speed is under 1mb.Were all payng for 6mb downloads. Now granted you can't run the test in some place way far away with great results BUT chicago and dallas are right up our alley. Those cities are in our net pipeline.Run a speed test to them you'll see your speed is 1mb or lower.I know some of you dont care. Some just check email. There are alot of us that watch videos, play online games and such.So the net speed does matter to some of us.Before you get angry and flame me do what I asked.Speed test on pioneers website, then try speakeasy net speed. If you google speakeasy youll find it no prob and the speed test is in plain sight.Youll get the option to check the speed to dallas and chicago.I myself have tried this on different computers in different homes and its the same on all of them. Were getting getting over charged for what they are giving us.

What speeds do you get in Liberal at Speakeasy.net ? Can you run Pioneer's speed test and tell us if they are ripping you off too?

No you are paying for UP TO 6mb read there website. Are you even sure that it is within Pioneer? It can be within the servers past them and in that case there is nothing Pioneer can do about it. To a Trace Route and find out where it is slowing down at before you jump the gun and blame Pioneer.

I am pretty sure that PC puts a cap on the DL limit. Here I am paying for "midgrade" internet. I also am paying a low price because I signed up during a promotional period, otherwise it would cost $54.99.

Well according to my bill I'm paying for 6mb.No where on it does it say "up to".At this point I'll take half of 6mb thats a ton better then what we are getting now.I bet the isp services in surrounding towns are no where as fancy as pioneer BUT offer so much better services and prices.

Guess citizen has a reading problem. I did read the page when I signed up, it is on their description of their services. Just in case you need help, it is at http://www.pld.com/hs/hsmain.html .

Online it does say that we should be getting up to 6 MB service, but on a regular basis we are not even getting a fourth of that. The websites also claims that we should be getting speeds that are 100 to 200 times faster than dial-up. We regularly run under 1 MB connection speed, which is barely above dial-up speed. I've been checking this on a regular basis and when at one a.m. you are still getting under 1 MB connection speeds, there is a problem.

I had a friend give me a call and ask me to read this thread. I stopped reading Topix quite some time ago, but this one I probably better jump into. I ask that this not turn into a bash Pioneer / Kelly thread, but I would like to address some issues and maybe get some information to see what is happening. From the look of the threads, I think I have talked with some of you and/or received e-mails as the content is very similar.

First off, as posted earlier, our service is up to 6MB downstream on a normal connection. Before anyone goes firing up your keyboards, I agree that some of the speeds that I have seen posted are bad. I couple issues I would like to bring up is that Pioneer has NO control over outside speed test websites. This is the reason that we brought up our own internal server. Testing on our server lets us know if you are getting the speed through the cable modem or DSL to your house. If you are not, then there is an issue you need to let us know about.

When you test with an outside test site, you are going all the way through our service, the backbone, probably 10 routers or so, and then relying on a server that may have 1,000 people on it right then. The speed test is testing the capacity of each and every device along the way (maybe 5% Pioneer's). Once a packet leaves Pioneer's backbone, we have no control over it.

What I do monitor is the loading on the lines leaving Pioneer to upstream providers. If these lines get too full, then speed degrades. From all of these postings, this would be the typical case, but I am watching the lines during the night and they are only 75% loaded at maximum. I also read where the issue continues at 1AM and I can say the lines are wide open at that time.

I do not expect you to beleive me, so you can try it yourself. Do a traceroute to a location and it will show you how long it takes for a packet to hit a router along each step of the way. If you hit a point where everything is slow after that step, then that usually is the problem.

I ask if you do this and find some issues, please e-mail the results into the help desk so I can look at them. It is very possible there is something I am missing, so I would like to find it. We are not limiting any type of file transfer, streaming, or speed past what your original circuit speed is. Over the past few days I have received some interesting e-mails that insinuate I am causing this issue or blocking the web, which I am not(nor Pioneer) doing.

If you do respond to this post, please do not put in your e-mail address or IP number as this could be used by others to attack you. I would prefer you use the normal channels, which is the help desk, but I did want to respond to this with some information.

Yeah thanks Kelly for feeding us a bunch of crap, you should run for presidency! I hope Cox or some other company comes in and buys you guys out one day.

I've been in there and every single customer service rep has the ugliest smug look on their face. Looking at people like they are from another planet or something. They are very rude and should take some classes on being more professional. The lady who answers the phones is the nicest person I've ever dealt with.

That building is very lavish, now I know where my money goes. It goes to the free benefits and low pay of the employees. Well, actually the low pay of the grunt workers and high pay to the uppities. We pay alot for our services. The employees should thank us for all the lavish benefits we provide them.

Your response is professional to defend the name of Pioneer for crying out loud! What do you think your getting paid for? Yeah, jump on this one real fast and make it look good, after all it's your department right?

I know for a fact that the internet here is very slow and it is horrible! You can't feed everyone your lies and expect them to believe it.

But after all is said and done, we have no choice but to either switch over to Dish Network or suck it up and keep paying for Pioneer's lavish benefits and bad services.

Just move to europe. Their internet is way faster than north america's. And some even have fiber optic which southern bell here in the u.s. promised us and they never did. Fiber optic makes internet faster and much better.

I guess I don't get it. If all the people are unhappy and want to complain, why not just sign up for dish network or some other service. The way you can get data through phones, I would think you could just go with a data plan through a cell phone company if nothing else. It sounds like this company is charging so much, everything else would be a bargain, like dish (I mention this as someone posted it earlier). We have a lot of competition in our area, but now about anywhere you can get service. Obviously their service must work somewhat or you could post here. Just move on and find a provider you like.

Looks to me like we'd rather bitch about something so it makes our own shortcomings pale by comparison.

These people in support of our super slow internet probably work for pioneer. Why would they complain...they get it all for free.Heck one of the support comments came from someone who doesn't even live here.Poke your head out of the Ulysses bubble, try the internet anywhere else. It's so much faster everywhere else.
