Unfortunately, this part of the South Bay Area is filled to the brim with affluent families, who have become accustomed to entitlement and consequence avoidance due to their abundant wealth. It could even be said that the communities of Saratoga/Los Gatos/Monte Sereno actually strive to PRESERVE their residents' ability to live "above the law," in lieu of their "generous support" of the community and elevated social standing. Granted, these communities provide A LOT of fantastic activities and resources for the public and they generally consider family a high priority. However, these types of communities are ALSO the sort that inspired films like "The Stepford Wives" and "Cruel Intentions." Ask Steven Spielberg how he felt about Saratoga...

Good question, unless this article is meant to inspire us local SC readers into a higher level of vigilance when it comes to identifying culprits like this, particularly involving bicyclists. As noted here, perseverance is the key. During our Tour of the Gila there were two incidents that remain unsolved, the water bottle attack on 15 and the tacks in San Lorenzo. The lowlifes responsible for these crimes get away with them because those offended forget, and give up. The people described in this article did not forget or give up, resulting in the arrest of this hit and run perpetrator. The article states,“It took a full year of relentless networking, leafleting and digging by her friends, her attorney and the police.” That’s perseverance, that’s what it takes, and that’s what our community should be doing until we identify the people who throw the bottle and the tacks. Somebody knows something about both of those incidents. If we continue to work on flushing out that knowledge our efforts will lead to those at fault. If we give up, if we just forget, not only will the guilty remain free, we’ll invite repetitions of those acts in the future, and we’ll make ourselves a party to these crimes through our negligence and ambivalence.
